Dr. Terence Sio, a Radiation Oncologist at Mayo Clinic, AZ, Phoenix Campus, shares results of his randomized clinical trial appearing in the September 2019 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, testing the effectiveness of a mouth rinse to reduce the chemoradiotherapy side-effect to saliva. He found that the N-Acetylcysteine rinse proved effective in reducing saliva thickness and swallowing difficulties among patients in the treatment arm of the study. Further development needs to be done to improve the smell and taste of the rinse which could be a detractor to some patients. Available at: https://mayocl.in/2KyLTAh
