Your medication Cefuroxime

Cefuroxime is also known by the brand names: Ceftin and Zinacef.

Cefuroxime comes in tablet, oral solution, and oral suspension dosage forms.

Cefuroxime is most commonly used to treat or prevent bacterial infections. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, cefuroxime is usually taken by mouth with or without food twice a day. If upset stomach occurs take cefuroxime with food. Cefuroxime suspension needs to be taken with food, stored in the refrigerator and shaken well before each dose is given. All other dosage forms need to be stored at room temperature in a dry place. If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

Some common side effects with cefuroxime include diarrhea, upset stomach or throwing up.
Some less common side effects with cefuroxime include diaper rash in children, and vaginal yeast infection

While taking cefuroxime, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if:
• You have signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, tightness of the chest, etc.)
• You have an allergy to cefuroxime or other penicillins and cephalosporins
• Your symptoms do not get better or if they worsen

Any liquid remaining after 10 days needs to be thrown away.

It is important to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear.
