Allergy Medications Explained - Can You Take More Than One?
Allergy Medications Explained - Can You Take More Than One? Side Effects 1 Views โ€ข 13 days ago

There are many allergy medications on the market which can make it bewildering for a patient to know what to get and whether it is safe to combine more than one type of allergy medication. This video will explain in hopefully a simple understandable way how an anti-histamine differs from a steroid nasal spray differs from all the rest.

To begin, a water balloon represents the mast cell inside a personโ€™s body which is responsible for allergic reactions. To prevent an allergic reaction, you do NOT want the water inside the balloon from getting out. The water itself represents the chemicals including histamine that trigger an allergic reaction such as a sneeze, runny nose, itching, etc. Allergic substances like ragweed are symbolized by needles that are trying to pop the water balloon.

Keep in mind that the โ€œscienceโ€ has been grossly over-simplified for understandability.

0:00 Introduction: Allergies explainedย
0:45 The connection between allergies and cortisolย
1:11 The best antihistamine remedyย
2:02 Foods high in quercetinย
3:05 Other allergy remediesย
3:48 Thanks for watching!ย

Let's talk about one of the best natural antihistamine remedies.ย

Histamine is involved in the immune reaction, and it produces a lot of symptoms related to allergies. Sometimes the body inappropriately responds to an allergen, and you get a series of symptoms.ย

These allergy symptoms can include:
โ€ข Hay feverย
โ€ข Sinus problemsย
โ€ข Hivesย
โ€ข Itchingย
โ€ข Flushingย
โ€ข Dermatitisย
โ€ข Photosensitivityย
โ€ข Sneezingย
โ€ข Fatigueย
โ€ข Wheezingย

The more of a histamine response you have, the more cortisol response you'll have. Cortisol is the natural body chemical that helps neutralize histamines.ย

If someone has adrenal fatigue or low cortisol, they won't have the buffering effect from cortisol, and histamines will rise too high.ย

The #1 best antihistamine remedy is quercetin. You can use this natural antihistamine remedy as needed to help minimize histamine symptoms.ย

Quercetin has been thoroughly studied. It inhibits the cells that make histamines and directly inhibits the histamine response.ย

It also helps stabilize the mast cell membranes, which is how many antihistamines work. Quercetin can help reduce mucus and inflammation, similar to a natural Zyrtec.ย

You can get quercetin by consuming foods high in quercetin or by taking a quercetin supplement. If you take a quercetin supplement, you may want to take 400 to 600 mg, depending on your size, every two hours until you feel relief.ย

Taking it with a small amount of fat can help increase absorption. To increase the absorption even more, you can get quercetin with bromelain.

Foods high in quercetin:
โ€ข Red onionsย
โ€ข Capersย
โ€ข Kaleย
โ€ข Radishesย
โ€ข Dillย

I have found this is an effective remedy, but it may not work 100% of the time. To enhance this effect, you can try other natural allergy remedies.ย

Natural remedies for allergies:ย
1. Vitamin D (at least 20,000 IU per day)
2. Zinc (50 mg)
3. Nettle rootย

Zyrtec
Zyrtec Side Effects 0 Views โ€ข 13 days ago

Allergies reign supreme. Successfully combating them entails an enormous array of pills, potions and sprays none of which provides a knockout in all cases. Non-sedating anti-histamines such as Zyrtec may offer some relief for the runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing that so often form the core of seasonal or perennial hay fever or allergic rhinitis.

Anti-histamines may also prove beneficial in treating hives or urticaria. This allergic skin reaction often involves liberation of histamine and an incessantly itchy eruption. Dramatic improvement but often not complete success follows shortly after beginning a course of anti-histamines.

Usually these drugs fail to provide relief for the nasal symptoms accompanying the common cold since histamine is not a major culprit. Similarly anti-histamines regularly lack effect for simple itchy skin.

The older first generation anti-histamines routinely cross into the brain and may contribute to sleepiness which makes them less desirable for daytime use. To a large degree second generation anti-histamines including Zyrtec, Allegra and Claritin avoid this unwanted effect and additionally may be taken only once daily. However of all the newer anti-histamines Zyrtec occupies more of the brainโ€™s anti-histamine receptors and may produce a degree of tiredness.

When Zyrtec gained FDA marketing approval it contained two mirror image molecules known as levo-cetirizine and dextro-cetirizine. But the body typically only recognizes 1 of these so-called enantiomers. With patent expiration and in an attempt to extend their income stream the pharmaceutical company removed the inactive dextro-cetirizine and rebranded the old Zyrtec as the newer patent protected Xyzal.

Tradition focuses our attention on anti-histamine therapy for allergy symptoms. Most experts suggest an even better option for many if not most individuals would be intranasal cortisone sprays such as Flonase and Nasacort. These provide more universal relief while focusing their complete attention on the local symptoms without providing significant systemic effects.

While the name brand products sell at a major premium, equally effective generics offer the same relief without the unnecessary financial toll.
