I decided to do a quick video to share my experience of using a period-delay tablet.



For the first time ever, I decided to try a the period-delay pill, Norethisterone, to postpone my dreaded time-of-the month.


I was able to purchase the medication easily online after completing a short medical questionnaire. The tablets were then sent to me in the post within a couple of days.


I was shocked! As someone with large uterine fibroids, my body can be quite naughty and decide to do what it wants anyway, but I found with this tablet... it actually behaved for once! I didn't come on. It worked! I did experience some side effects, but I believe this is to do more with my body on the days leading up to my period, as opposed to the medication itself.

This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: norethindrone (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). This product also contains a small amount of iron (ferrous fumarate) in inactive tablets taken during the fourth week. The inactive pills do not contain any hormones. These tablets are meant to keep you in the habit of taking 1 tablet each day and do not have enough iron to treat iron deficiency. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease the risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne. Remember to take 1 tablet each day at the same time to maintain its effectiveness. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases.

Whenever a patient is on norethisterone for management of absent period that means the patient has missed her period and now to get her withdrawal bleed patient is on a progesterone hormone called norethisterone. Now after this, after you finish the tablet you need to wait one week ten days to get the withdrawal bleed. So the first thing why the patient has not bled after norethisterone maybe the waiting period is not enough. So wait for 10-12 days after finishing the tablet. The second thing maybe the hormonal imbalance is so bad that a single hormone support of progesterone may not get a withdrawal bleed and you may have to put on estrogen as well. the third possibility is pregnancy. Pregnancy may be there and hence norethisterone hasn’t caused a bleeding yet. So rule out pregnancy. Fourth can be any uterine abnormality or stenosis of the cervix or any anatomical defect which would have held the bleeding inside the uterus and clots would have collected. So that may be the reason. But if a person who has been regularly menstruating then the fourth chances are very less. So the other causes have to be ruled out.

It can also be used for women who have stopped having menstrual periods for several months, but are not pregnant or going through menopause. Additionally, it is used to treat endometriosis, a condition in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus is found outside the uterus in the abdomen/pelvic area, causing painful/irregular periods.

But the mini pill only has 1, and it’s progestin, and this works in harmony with the hormones that a woman’s body produces while nursing to prevent ovulation from happening. The mini pill doesn’t cause headaches and it also doesn’t contribute to weight-gain, which is a really good thing after having a baby, because you’re trying to lose the weight.

Users of the mini pill are slightly more likely to have ovarian cysts, acne breakouts are more common while using it, and the most common side effect is unscheduled vaginal bleeding and spotting. This, by far, is the most common side effect and the reason why most women end up discontinuing its use.
