Pregabalin Capsules belongs to a group of medications called 'anti-convulsants', primarily used in the prevention of neuropathic pain, epilepsy (seizure episodes), fibromyalgia (musculoskeletal pain), and neuralgia (pain due to damaged/irritated nerve). Neuropathic pain is chronic nerve pain usually caused by damaged nerves due to a variety of diseases like diabetes, shingles (viral infection that causes a painful rash), spinal cord injury, and injuries to tissue, muscles, or joints.
'Pregabalin', which works by calming the damaged or overactive nerves in the body that may cause nerve or musculoskeletal pain or seizures. Besides this, it also decreases the number of pain signals sent out by damaged nerves in the body.

Pregabalin 75 use in epilepsy is as an add-on therapy for partial seizures. When used before surgery, pregabalin reduces pain but results in greater sedation and visual disturbances. Seizures

Neuropathic pain
The European Federation of Neurological Societies recommends lyrica 75 as a first line agent for the treatment of pain associated with diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, and central neuropathic pain.

Pregabalin's use in cancer-associated neuropathic pain is controversial; though such use is common. There is no evidence for its use in the prevention of migraines and gabapentin has also been found not to be useful. Pregabalin 75 has been examined for the prevention of post-surgical chronic pain, but its utility for this purpose is controversial.

Pregabalin is generally not regarded as efficacious in the treatment of acute pain.
Anxiety disorders
Pregabalin is moderately effective and is safe for treatment of generalized anxiety disorder. It appears to have anxiolytic effects similar to benzodiazepines with less risk of dependence.

The effects of pregabalin appear after one week of use and are similar in effectiveness to lorazepam, alprazolam, and venlafaxine, but pregabalin has demonstrated superiority by producing more consistent therapeutic effects for psychosomatic anxiety symptoms.

Lyrica, Gabapentin, and Topamax side effects of weight gain and brain fog from these anti-convulsants. I was prescribed these medications for diabetic neuropathy and for severe pain caused from Guillain-Barre (GBS) and conversion disorder. These drugs do help with pain management but I wish the doctors would have told me about the side effects. Also, many doctors didn't believe me when I mentioned that Lyrica can cause weight gain. I gained 21 pounds the first month that I was on Lyrica. It was like I was given a large dose of steroids. I have researched this weight gain issue with many folks taking these meds. I am turning to holistic medications like CBD oil to manage pain.

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There are new concerns about some of the alternatives to opioids now being used for pain control.

Back pain is often the reason people turn to traditional opioid medications.

In an effort of course to reduce the use of these medications and the potential for addiction many health care providers are suggesting other medications for patients you get by prescription at the pharmacy.

These generally are considered less addictive for patients.

But a new warning was recently released on some of these other medications based on a study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

When many of these other medications were reviewed they were not only considered ineffective for back pain but they also led to a high risk of side effects for many people.
