How to use Ventolin inhaler
How to use Ventolin inhaler Side Effects 0 Views • 15 days ago

How to use the Ventolin inhaler which contains salbutamol. This short acting inhaler is also sometimes known as a "blue" inhaler. Most commonly it is used as a reliever for asthma, although it can be prescribed for many other conditions. It is probably the most common and well known inhaler.
The inhalation technique involves first breathing out and then as you are breathing back in you press on the inhaler and continue to breathe in slowly an deeply trying to catch the aerosol that is released.

Salbutamol ¿cuándo y cómo debemos administrarlo? Tu Farmacéutico Informa
Salbutamol ¿cuándo y cómo debemos administrarlo? Tu Farmacéutico Informa Side Effects 0 Views • 15 days ago

An estimated 90% of patients use their metered dose inhaler incorrectly. Inadequate inhaler technique lowers drug deposition to the lungs, wastes medication and may lead to poor disease control, reduced quality of life, increased emergency hospital admissions and higher treatment costs.

Please spread the word to friends and family - Like, Share & Tag a Friend. So they can also master their inhaler technique when using a spacer device and manage their respiratory condition better.

HOW TO USE A SPACER WITH INHALER
1) Remove the inhaler and spacer cap. Carefully examine the products for damage, missing parts, or foreign objects. Remove any foreign objects prior to use. The products should be replaced immediately if there are any damaged or missing parts.
2) Firmly fit the two halves of the spacer together (If necessary).
3) Stand or sit upright when using your inhaler and spacer.
4) If you are starting a new inhaler or have not used the inhaler for more than one week you must prime your inhaler. Please read the information leaflet of your inhaler for instructions.
5) Hold the inhaler upright, insert into the spacer and shake 4 or 5 times.

So they can also master their inhaler technique and manage their respiratory condition better.

COMMON INHALER TECHNIQUE MISTAKES:

• Not breathing out first. When you breathe out fully (or as much as you comfortably can) just before taking your inhaler, you create more space in your airways for your next breath in. This means that you can breathe in deeper and for longer when you inhale your asthma medicine - giving it the best chance of reaching the small airways deep inside your lungs, and being most effective.

• Not holding your breath after taking your inhaler. If you've been advised to hold your breath after taking in your inhaler, it's very important to do so. When you hold your breath after inhaling the medicine, you are keeping your airways still. This gives more time for the medicine to get into your lungs. If you can hold your breath for 10 seconds, this is ideal but if this isn't possible, you will still benefit by holding it for as long as you feel comfortable.

• Not priming the aerosol inhaler device Aerosol inhalers require priming (so you get the right amount of medicine when you use it) before using for the first time, or if they have not been used for a while - always refer to information leaflet.

• Not shaking your MDI before use and between puffs. If you don't shake the canister, the asthma medicine and propellant (the substance which helps turn the medicine into aerosol form) will not mix together properly and too much or too little of one will be released.

• Inhaling too early before pressing the canister. If you're already half way through breathing in by the time the medicine is released from the inhaler, you won't have enough time to finish breathing in all the medicine because your lungs will already be full. If this happens, some of the medicine will end up being sprayed in your mouth and hitting the back of your throat and not being carried down to your lungs where it's needed.

• Inhaling too late after pressing the canister (unless you're using a spacer). It takes less than half a second from the time the canister is pressed for all the medicine inside the inhaler to be released. If you breathe in after this time, some of the medicine will end up being sprayed in your mouth and not to your lungs where it's needed.

• Not leaving enough time between doses. You need to give your inhaler a good shake between doses and then wait at least 30 to 60 seconds before taking the next puff.

JUST ASK:

If you're ever unsure about your inhaler technique always double check with your pharmacist, nurse practitioner or GP.

Salbutamol Solution: Uses, Dosage, Mechanism, Side Effects, and Important Advice | MediInsights
Salbutamol Solution: Uses, Dosage, Mechanism, Side Effects, and Important Advice | MediInsights Side Effects 2 Views • 15 days ago

Welcome to MediInsights, where we are dedicated to "Unlocking The Wonders of Wellness." In today’s video, we delve into the comprehensive details of Salbutamol Solution, a vital medication in the management of respiratory conditions.

Uses of Salbutamol Solution:
Salbutamol Solution is extensively used to treat bronchospasm associated with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other obstructive airway diseases. By relaxing the muscles around the airways, it helps to ease breathing and provide rapid relief from acute respiratory symptoms.

Dosage of Salbutamol Solution:
The standard dosage for adults and children over 12 years is 2.5 mg to 5 mg, administered up to four times daily using a nebulizer. For children aged 4 to 12 years, the typical dose is 2.5 mg, also up to four times daily. It's crucial to follow your healthcare provider's prescription and avoid exceeding the recommended dosage to prevent adverse effects.

Mechanism of Action of Salbutamol Solution:
Salbutamol functions as a selective β2-adrenergic agonist. It binds to β2 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, activating adenylate cyclase and increasing cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels. This process results in the relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles, leading to bronchodilation, reduced airway resistance, and improved airflow. This mechanism is essential for providing quick relief from bronchospasm symptoms.

Side Effects of Salbutamol Solution:
Common side effects include tremors, headaches, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), palpitations, and muscle cramps. Though less common, serious side effects can occur, such as chest pain, high blood pressure, low potassium levels (hypokalemia), and paradoxical bronchospasm (worsening of bronchospasm). If severe side effects or allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, or swelling) occur, seek medical attention immediately.

Important Advice for Using Salbutamol Solution:

Proper Use: Ensure the correct use of the nebulizer or inhaler to maximize the medication's effectiveness. Follow the usage instructions provided by your healthcare professional.
Dosage Adherence: Stick to the prescribed dosage and frequency. If a dose is missed, do not double up; simply take the next dose as scheduled.
Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of your symptoms and consult your healthcare provider if there is no improvement or if symptoms worsen.
Side Effects Awareness: Be aware of potential side effects and contact your healthcare provider if they occur.
Regular Check-ups: Schedule regular follow-ups with your healthcare provider to monitor the treatment's effectiveness and make any necessary adjustments.
By following these guidelines, you can manage your respiratory conditions effectively with Salbutamol Solution while minimizing the risk of adverse effects.

ASTHMA INHALER Side Effect Responsible For Strange LESIONS on Gums?! 🧐 Side Effects 1 Views • 15 days ago

Dr Joseph Nemeth discusses Asthma Inhalers and other exposure to hazardous fumes causing strange lesions on the gum tissue decades after exposure.

Those patients who did not rinse out their mouths after using an inhaler may be at higher risk of developing unusual lesions on their gum tissue.

Another recent patient was exposed to strong fumes from jet fuel and later developed strange white patches on her gum tissue. She also developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. Are the two related?

Salbutamol - Pharmacology - Uses, Mechanism Of Action & Adverse Effects
Salbutamol - Pharmacology - Uses, Mechanism Of Action & Adverse Effects Side Effects 1 Views • 15 days ago

Salbutamol is a short-acting beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonist, used to treat various airway diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasms.
Routes of administration include oral, subcutaneous, intravenous, and inhalational.
Out of these, the most effective one is the inhalational route since it significantly reduces the systemic distribution of the drug.
Beta 2 receptors are predominantly located in airway smooth muscle cells. In addition, they can be found in the cardiac muscle, uterine smooth muscle cells, blood vessels, skeletal muscle, and in various immune cells.
Since the drug is mainly used for airway conditions, let’s focus on its mechanism of action in bronchial smooth muscle cells.
Following administration, salbutamol binds to the beta 2 adrenergic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle cells and activates them.
Beta 2 adrenergic receptor is a G protein coupled receptor, and activation of this receptor leads to the activation of an enzyme called adenylyl cyclase, which increases the cyclic AMP levels within the cell.
Increased cyclic AMP causes reduction in intracellular calcium levels, which ultimately relaxes the smooth muscle.
Through this mechanism, salbutamol causes relaxation of smooth muscles of all airways, from the trachea to terminal bronchioles.
In addition, increased cyclic AMP levels will inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators by the mast cells, which ultimately reduces inflammation.
Salbutamol is metabolized by the liver and excreted via the kidneys.
Some common adverse effects of salbutamol include the following.
Tremors.
Palpitations, or noticeable heartbeat.
Nausea and vomiting.
Headache.
Muscle and bone pain.
And allergic reactions.
Finally, it is important to know that these adverse effects occur much less frequently when salbutamol inhalers are used.
