Motrin IB (Ibuprofen) – Side Effects, Uses, Mechanism of Action, Dosage, Interactions, Warnings Side Effects 0 Views • 24 days ago

Motrin IB (Ibuprofen) – Side Effects, Uses, Mechanism of Action, Dosage, Interactions, Warnings
Motrin IB, a brand name for ibuprofen, is an NSAID used to relieve mild to moderate pain, reduce fever, and alleviate inflammation and swelling. Common side effects include upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and drowsiness, while serious side effects can involve stomach bleeding, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, kidney problems, and severe allergic reactions. Adults and children over 12 should take 200 to 400 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding 1200 mg in 24 hours unless advised by a doctor. Ibuprofen works by inhibiting COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, reducing the production of prostaglandins, thereby lessening inflammation, pain, and fever. Interactions with anticoagulants, antihypertensives, other NSAIDs, methotrexate, and lithium can increase the risk of serious side effects. Warnings include significant gastrointestinal risks and the need to avoid use during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester.

What is Ibuprofen and how does it WORK? - NSAIDs, Nurofen, Advil
What is Ibuprofen and how does it WORK? - NSAIDs, Nurofen, Advil Side Effects 0 Views • 24 days ago

Ever wondered how Ibuprofen works? Well, wonder no more. Here's the explainer with the what, how, why, side effects and history and pharmacology to boot (two advanced sections in the 2nd half). Probably the most interesting history so far!

You might also know this drug by it's trade names: Nurofen or Advil. They are part of a class of drugs called NSAIDS - that's Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. They are COX inhibitors.

It's good for headaches, fever and booboos. Analgesia and antipyretic, and also anti-swelling!

As always we go through things in simple terms and then for the hardcore enthusiasts we're into the complex stuff.

You'll discover how Ibuprofen works as a pain killer (analgesic), how it can low temperature (antipyretic), and how it can stop swelling. Plenty more in the series too.

Doctor Furlan explains what are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin, naproxen, diclofenac, ibuprofen and celecoxib. Dr. Furlan shows the indications and contra-indications for these medications. How to use them for pain, chronic pain, migraines, headaches, menstrual cramps and acute pain.

She answers questions about mixing antiinflammatories, safety for children, during pregnancy and for elderly people.

Dr. Furlan explains that some anti-inflammatories are different in terms of side effects, complications and toxicity. It is important to remember that acetaminophen is not an anti-inflammatory but Dr. Furlan includes this drug in this video because there is a lot of confusion about what acetaminophen is. And she explains the potential poisoning by acetaminophen (Tylenol).
