What is this drug used for?
• It is used to help motion sickness.
• It is used to treat upset stomach and throwing up.
What do I need to tell my doctor BEFORE I take this drug?
• If you have an allergy to dimenhydrinate or any other part of this drug.
• If you are allergic to any drugs like this one, any other drugs, foods, or other substances. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had, like rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
• If you have any of these health problems: Glaucoma, lung or breathing problems, or prostate problems.
• If you are taking potassium tablets.
• If you have taken certain drugs used for low mood (depression) like isocarboxazid, phenelzine, or tranylcypromine or drugs used for Parkinson's disease like selegiline or rasagiline in the last 14 days. Taking this drug within 14 days of those drugs can cause very bad high blood pressure.
• If you are breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed.
What are some things I need to know or do while I take this drug?
• Tell all of your health care providers that you take this drug. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
• Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert until you see how this drug affects you.
• This drug may affect certain lab tests. Tell all of your health care providers and lab workers that you take this drug.
• If you are allergic to tartrazine, talk with your doctor. Some products have tartrazine.
• Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this drug.
• Talk with your doctor before you use other drugs and natural products that slow your actions.
• If you are 65 or older, use this drug with care. You could have more side effects.
• Use with care in children. Talk with the doctor.
• Do not give this drug to a child younger than 2 years of age.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using this drug while you are pregnant.
What are some side effects that I need to call my doctor about right away?
• WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug.
• Trouble passing urine.
• Pain when passing urine.
• A fast heartbeat.
• Blurred eyesight.
• Feeling extremely nervous and excitable.
• Restlessness.
• Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there).
• Feeling confused.
• Seizures.
• A very bad skin reaction (Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis) may happen.
What are some other side effects of this drug?
• Dizziness.
• Feeling sleepy.
• Dry mouth.
• Dry nose.
• Feeling nervous and excitable.

What is this medication?
MECLIZINE is an antihistamine. It is used to prevent nausea, vomiting, or dizziness caused by motion sickness.
It is also used to prevent and treat vertigo (extreme dizziness or a feeling that you or your surroundings are tilting or spinning around).

Dramamine Less Drowsy,

Mechanism of Action
Meclizine is a first-generation antihistamine (non-selective H1 antagonist). It also has central anticholinergic actions.
The blocking actions on these receptors give meclizine its antiemetic and antivertigo properties. This blocking effect occurs in the vomiting center and chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) located in the medulla.
These effects result in the inhibition of signals through histamine neurotransmission from the nucleus of the solitary tract and the vestibular nuclei to the chemoreceptor trigger zone and vomiting center located in the medulla.
This effect also reduces vestibular incitation and labyrinth excitability.

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to meclizine.
Before you take meclizine, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease,
asthma,
glaucoma,
an enlarged prostate,
or urination problems.
This medication may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
Cold or allergy medicine,
sedatives,
narcotic pain medicine,
sleeping pills,
muscle relaxers,
and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by meclizine.
Meclizine Side Effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to meclizine: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Common meclizine side effects may include:
• headache;
• vomiting;
• dry mouth;
• tired feeling; or
• drowsiness.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
What other drugs will affect Meclizine?
Taking meclizine with other drugs that make you sleepy or slow your breathing can increase these effects. Ask your doctor before taking meclizine with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.
Tell your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with this medicine, especially:
• Cinacalcet;
• Quinidine;
• Terbinafine; or
• the antidepressants bupropion, duloxetine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, or sertraline.
Other drugs may interact with meclizine, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all medicines you use now, and any medicine you start or stop using.
