What Are The Side Effects Of Linaclotide? In this informative video, we'll cover the side effects associated with Linaclotide, a medication commonly used to address gastrointestinal issues such as irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic idiopathic constipation. We will discuss both common and serious side effects, including gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, and increased gas. You will learn about the importance of monitoring these side effects and when to seek medical attention. Additionally, we will highlight the risks associated with severe reactions, including dehydration and allergic responses, and the significance of consulting a healthcare provider for any concerning symptoms.

IMPORTANT RISK INFORMATION

- Do not give LINZESS to children who are less than 2 years of age. It may harm them. LINZESS can cause severe diarrhea and your child could get severe dehydration (loss of a large amount of body water and salt).
- Do not take LINZESS if a doctor has told you that you have a bowel blockage (intestinal obstruction).

Before you take LINZESS, tell your doctor about your medical conditions, including if you are:
- Pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if LINZESS will harm your unborn baby.
- Breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. You and your doctor should decide if you will take LINZESS and breastfeed.

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Side Effects

LINZESS can cause serious side effects, including diarrhea, which is the most common side effect and can sometimes be severe. Diarrhea often begins within the first 2 weeks of LINZESS treatment. Stop taking LINZESS and call your doctor right away if you get severe diarrhea during treatment with LINZESS.

Other common side effects of LINZESS in people with IBS-C and CIC include gas, stomach-area (abdomen) pain, and swelling, or a feeling of fullness or pressure in your abdomen (distention).

Call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away if you develop unusual or severe stomach-area (abdomen) pain, especially if you also have bright red, bloody stools or black stools that look like tar.

These are not all the possible side effects of LINZESS. For more information, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit https://www.fda.gov/medwatch or call 1-800-FDA-1088.

Why Linzess is Worth the Side Effects Now | Trusting Western Medicine & My Medical Team
Why Linzess is Worth the Side Effects Now | Trusting Western Medicine & My Medical Team Side Effects 0 Views • 2 months ago

#medical #chronicillness #constipation
February 8, 2023 - I talk about Linzess in depth in this video, going into my current experience a few days into being on the 72 mcg dosage. I talk about the necessity of committing to a daily motility protocol that my doctor believes in and the necessity of putting up with any uncomfortable side effects that the medication gives me. As much as I love trying alternative motility interventions, the bottom line is that my doctor does not see those as equal to taking laxatives or stronger motility medications like Linzess. If I am not on a daily motility regime that my doctor agrees with and supports, my case will not be taken seriously. And, honestly, the only time an X-ray has shown my body without a stool burden was when I was taking Linzess at 290mcg in June of 2022. I have been putting way too much pressure on myself to figure this illness, or rather, collection of illnesses, out on my own, and I am done doing that to myself. I have my medical team on my side for a reason. And, honestly, neither my team nor I could have known how much this condition would progress over the course of the past few months. Back in July of 2022, ceasing the Linzess to regain control over my body and to go deep into juicing, supplements, and herbal interventions for motility was a fine idea because initially those interventions gave me better quality and more frequent bowel movements than the Linzess ever gave me and my doctor supported me making that choice since my weight was stable. I had a lot of hope that I could stop or slow my conditions from progressing if I just pushed myself harder with eating and if I just found the right combination of herbs and supplements. However, as my motility has gotten worse each month since September/October 2022, interventions outside of Western medicine are no longer effective on their own. It is time to go with the medication that we have proven with tests works. This video also goes into my fear of losing control of my body and why I started Linzess in May of 2022.

If you are having difficulty paying for your medicine, AbbVie and Ironwood may be able to help. Visit https://AbbVie.com/myAbbVieAssist to learn more.

This video is the eighth installment of the IBS series and compares popular IBS-C drugs Linzess and Trulance.

Timestamps / Table of Contents:

✩ Intro: 0:00

✩ What Are Linzess & Trulance: 1:12
Linzess is linaclotide. Trulance is plecanatide. Both drugs belong to the same class—they are both guanylate cyclase-C agonists.

✩ How Do Linzess & Trulance Work: 2:27
Both Linzess and Trulance increase the amount of fluid in the intestines, which softens stool and increases intestinal transit time. They may help to decrease abdominal pain, but this has only been proven in non-human animal studies. Both drugs are meant to be taken daily. Linzess is taken on an empty stomach 30 minutes before eating. Trulance can be taken with or without food.

✩ History, Price, & Drug Interaction Considerations: 7:10

Both drugs cost around $500 for a 30 day supply and are usually not covered by insurance. Linzess has known drug interactions with: levothyroxine, bisacodyl, psyllium, magnesium hydroxide, and omeprazole. Trulance is known to interact with idelalisib.

About IBS Treatment Center
===========================

Dr. Stephen Wangen, co-founder and Medical Director of the IBS Treatment Center, and his staff have successfully helped over 10,000 people resolve irritable bowel syndrome and chronic digestive problems since 2005.

Some patients have had IBS symptoms so severe that they spent a considerable amount of time in the hospital. Others are suffering alone at home and are no less frustrated with the impact that it is having on their lives. The thread that tied them all together was that they had never seen an IBS expert (much different than a gastroenterologist), a doctor whose only mission is to help people solve IBS.

Patients work with us from around the country and the world via our telemedicine services. Get back your life! Work with us via telemedicine. Visit the IBS Specialists at https://ibstreatmentcenter.com
