🎯 Tranexamic Acid (TXA) is an antifibrinolytic agent that inhibits the breakdown of blood clots by blocking the binding of plasminogen to fibrin. It works by preventing fibrinolysis, which helps reduce bleeding in various clinical conditions, such as trauma, heavy menstrual bleeding, and during surgeries.
🎯 TXA is administered orally or intravenously, with rapid absorption and distribution. It is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine. TXA is generally well-tolerated, but can have side effects like nausea and, in rare cases, thrombotic events.

Tranexamic Acid Tablet Exposed: Uncover Uses, Dosage, Mechanism & Side Effects Now! MediInsights
Tranexamic Acid Tablet Exposed: Uncover Uses, Dosage, Mechanism & Side Effects Now! MediInsights Side Effects 2 Views • 14 days ago

Welcome to MediInsights – Unlocking The Wonders of Wellness! In this comprehensive video, we dive deep into the world of Tranexamic Acid Tablets, a vital medication for controlling excessive bleeding. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, a student, or simply curious about breakthrough medical therapies, this video covers everything you need to know about the uses, dosage, mechanism of action, side effects, and essential advice for using Tranexamic Acid Tablet safely and effectively.

Tranexamic Acid is a powerful antifibrinolytic agent that works by stabilizing blood clots and preventing them from breaking down prematurely. In our video, we detail how this medication is employed in various medical scenarios, including managing heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), reducing blood loss during surgical and dental procedures, controlling postpartum hemorrhage, and even addressing trauma-related bleeding and hereditary angioedema. Our discussion covers each use case in-depth, highlighting how Tranexamic Acid can make a significant difference in patient outcomes by preventing uncontrolled bleeding.

Understanding the correct dosage is critical for maximizing the benefits and minimizing potential risks. We explain the recommended dosages for different conditions, such as taking 1000 mg three times daily for heavy menstrual bleeding and adjusted doses for surgical bleeding prevention and trauma care. We also emphasize that the precise dosage might vary based on individual factors and the severity of the condition, urging viewers always to follow their healthcare provider’s instructions.

A key focus of our video is the mechanism of action. We break down how Tranexamic Acid works at a molecular level by inhibiting plasminogen activation, thereby preventing the conversion into plasmin—the enzyme responsible for clot breakdown. This stabilization of clots is what makes Tranexamic Acid particularly effective in situations where excessive fibrinolysis (clot breakdown) can lead to dangerous bleeding episodes.

Safety is always our top priority. We provide a thorough overview of potential side effects, ranging from common issues like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and muscle pain to more serious reactions including vision disturbances, seizures, and the risk of blood clots. We even touch on the rare but significant risks of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge needed to use Tranexamic Acid safely, with a strong emphasis on recognizing warning signs and understanding when to seek medical advice.

Additionally, we share important advice for those prescribed Tranexamic Acid. From avoiding the medication in patients with a history of blood clots, kidney disease, or clotting disorders, to being cautious with concurrent use of oral contraceptives, our expert recommendations are designed to ensure safe use and optimal results.

Join us on this educational journey as we break down the complexities of Tranexamic Acid Tablets in a clear, concise, and engaging manner. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share this video if you find it helpful. Comment below with any questions or topics you’d like us to explore in future videos. Using Tranexamic Acid (TXA) on Trauma Patients | Dr. Patrick Kim, Trauma Surgeon
Using Tranexamic Acid (TXA) on Trauma Patients | Dr. Patrick Kim, Trauma Surgeon Side Effects 0 Views • 14 days ago

Penn Medicine's Trauma Center uses all means necessary to quickly find and stop bleeding, as uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of death in patients who have been severely injured. Depending on the location and severity of bleeding, a patient may require specific medications, red blood cell transfusion, invasive catheter procedures, plasma or platelets, or surgery.

Patrick Kim, MD, trauma surgeon and the Trauma Program Medical Director at Penn Medicine's Level 1 Trauma Center, discusses life-threatening bleeding and the use of tranexamic acid (TXA), a medication that helps control bleeding after trauma which has been used to treat bleeding on a wide varity of patients in the operating room and Emergency Department.

"It has the greatest impact of survival on the patients who are bleeding the most," Dr. Kim explains. "In one study, TXA improved survival by 14% -- which is remarkable for any single medical treatment. TXA is an important part of our Trauma Center strategy to stop bleeding and save lives. Although it's not a replacement for blood transfusion or prompt surgery, it is an important addition to these treatments." He continues, "TXA is an important part of our Trauma Center’s strategy to stop bleeding and save lives. Although it’s not a replacement for blood transfusion or prompt surgery, it is an important addition to these treatments."

It binds reversibly to lysine-binding sites on plasminogen, preventing its activation to plasmin.
Plasmin is the enzyme responsible for breaking down fibrin clots.
Tranexamic acid also weakly inhibits plasmin activity, further reducing fibrinolysis.
By stabilizing fibrin clots, it reduces bleeding without directly affecting platelet function or coagulation factors.
Tranexamic acid can be administered through various routes.
Intravenous route allows rapid onset of action and is commonly used in acute settings, such as trauma or perioperative bleeding.
Oral tranexamic acid is used for conditions like heavy menstrual bleeding or prophylaxis in hereditary angioedema.
It has a low bioavailability of approximately 30 to 50%.
Topical tranexamic acid preparations are also available and applied locally to surgical sites or wounds to control localized bleeding such as dental extractions and minor surgical procedures.
It is also available as solutions, sprays, or gels.
Intramuscular route is less commonly used.
Tranexamic acid is minimally metabolized and most of the drug is excreted unchanged via the kidneys.
The most common adverse effects of tranexamic acid include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Dizziness, and headache.
Rare but Serious side effects include Thromboembolic events such as deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism.
Visual disturbances.
Allergic reactions such as rash, pruritus, or anaphylaxis.
And Hypotension, especially with rapid intravenous administration.
Absolute contraindications for the use of tranexamic acid include Active thromboembolic disease such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or cerebral thrombosis.
Acquired defective color vision.
And history of hypersensitivity to tranexamic acid.
Relative contraindications include Renal impairment, History of thromboembolic events or clotting disorders, and Concurrent use of other antifibrinolytics or procoagulants.

- In 3 minutes you'll learn about:

- What is Tranexamic Acid (Cyklokapron)?

- Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic agent. It competitively and reversibly inhibits the activation of plasminogen, via binding at several distinct sites, knowing that activation of plasminogen to plasmin, degrades and dissolves fibrin clots, so by occupying the necessary binding sites, tranexamic acid prevents the dissolution of fibrin, thereby stabilizing the clot and preventing hemorrhage.

- In other words, it works by blocking the breakdown of blood clots, which prevents bleeding.

- Tranexamic acid is available as 500 mg tablets, and also available as injection.

- It is used for short-term treatment in patients with hemophilia, to reduce or prevent hemorrhage, and to reduce bleeding during, and following a tooth extraction.

- And it is also used for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding.
- Tranexamic acid may also be used in hereditary angioedema, epistaxis, and in thrombolytic overdose.
