Allopurinol is also known as the brand name: Aloprim or Zyloprim

Allopurinol comes in 100 mg and 300 mg tablets.

Allopurinol is most commonly used for: preventing gout and treating kidney stones. Allopurinol may also be used to prevent some side effects of chemotherapy treatment. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, allopurinol is usually taken by mouth once daily. Allopurinol should be taken after meals and with plenty of water throughout the day.

Standard dosing of allopurinol ranges from: 100 mg to 300 mg once daily

Some side effects with allopurinol include: possible skin rash, nausea, or diarrhea

While taking allopurinol remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have:
• Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, itching, or hives
• Painful or bloody urination
• Muscle pain or weakness
• Joint pain
