Amphetamine (the active ingredient in Adderall) and Methylphenidate (the active ingredient in Ritalin) both belong to the same drug class (central nervous system stimulants) and are used primarily in the treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
