Benzonatate is also known as the brand name: Tessalon Perles.

Benzonatate comes in 100, 150, and 200 mg capsules.

Benzonatate is most commonly used for cough. Benzonatate can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. If numbness or tingling of the lips, mouth, throat, or tongue occur do not eat or drink until numbness has resolved. Benzonatate should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed.

Standard dosing of benzonatate ranges from 100 to 200 mg up to three times per day.

Some side effects of benzonatate include dizziness, confusion, itching, nausea, chest numbness, nasal congestion, or chills.

While taking benzonatate remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if:
• You have signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, rash, or swelling
• You have changes in the way you act
• You are feeling confused
• You experience hallucinations
