This medicine works by preventing HIV from multiplying in your body and lowers HIV blood levels, which decreases your chance of developing AIDS and HIV-related illnesses such as cancer or serious infections.

Biktarvy is not a cure for HIV.

This medicine can be used to treat HIV infection in patients over 14 kg who have not previously taken any HIV medications in the past.

It can also be used to replace current HIV-1 medicine for patients who are virologically suppressed and on a stable antiretroviral regimen with no history of treatment failure and with no known resistance to bictegravir or tenofovir.

Diarrhea, nausea, and headache are common side effects in 5% or more of patients. This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur.
