- Formoterol is a long-acting bronchodilator. It stimulates beta-2 receptors in the lungs, leading to relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles, producing bronchodilation.
- So it is used-in the long-term maintenance treatment of asthma, prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm, concomitant therapy with short-acting beta2-agonists, inhaled or systemic corticosteroids, and theophylline therapy, and for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
- It is available as 12 mcg dry powder in capsules for inhalation, and 20 mcg/2 ml inhalation solution for nebulization.
