Indication: Cough suppression, expectorant

Action: Decreases viscosity of and mobilizes secretions

Therapeutic Class: allergy, cold and cough remedies, expectorant

Nursing Considerations
 patient should avoid over the counter cold medications
 assess lung sounds
 maintain adequate fluid intake
