This medication is used to relieve coughs caused by the common cold, bronchitis, and other breathing illnesses. Guaifenesin thins and loosens mucus in the airways, clearing congestion and making breathing easier. Dextromethorphan reduces the urge to cough by acting on a part of the brain. It is important to read the package instructions carefully before using this product. Cough-and-cold products have not been shown to be safe or effective in children younger than 6 years. Do not use this product to treat cold symptoms in children younger than 6 years unless specifically directed by the doctor. Some products are not recommended for use in children younger than 12 years. Follow all dosage directions to decrease the risk for serious side effects. Do not use this product to make a child sleepy and be cautious about giving other cough-and-cold medication that might contain the same or similar ingredients.
