If you find someone who has overdosed on fentanyl or another opioid, naloxone (commonly referred to by the brand name Narcan) can be administered through the nose or through an injection. In California, anyone can get naloxone without a prescription. Dr. David Copenhaver, chief of pain medicine at UC Davis Medical Center, explains how naloxone works and what you should know if you or someone in your life is using opioids for pain.
