Oxazepam is a medication that is used to treat anxiety and acute alcohol withdrawal. It belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines, which work in the brain and nerves to produce a calming and anti-seizure effect. It does this by enhancing the effects of a natural substance in the body called GABA. People typically take oxazepam three or four times a day, with or without food. It is important to take it at the same times each day. If you are taking it for anxiety, the typical dose is 10-15 mg, three or four times a day. If you are taking it for alcohol withdrawal, the dose will be determined by your doctor. Remember to follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
