- What is Levothyroxine ( Synthroid - Euthyrox - Eltroxin)?
- Levothyroxine is a thyroid hormone. It stimulates protein synthesis and increases utilization of carbohydrate. Increases cellular metabolic rate. And is needed for normal growth and maturation.
- It is available as 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150 microgram tablets.
- Levothyroxine is used in replacement therapy in hypothyroidism, and in situations when TSH suppression is indicated, such as thyroid carcinoma.
- The usual dosage of Levothyroxine for hypothyroidism, is 1.6 mcg/kg daily (usual maintenance dose 50-200 mcg/day)
