Your Medication Lorazepam

Lorazepam is also known as the brand name: Ativan

Lorazepam comes in tablet and injectable dosage forms.

Lorazepam is most commonly used for short term ( 4 months) relief of anxiety symptoms, anxiety associated with depressive symptoms, or anxiety/stress associated insomnia. Lorazepam may also be used for nausea/vomiting from chemo, partial seizures, or for agitation. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, lorazepam is usually taken by mouth and can be taken on an empty stomach or with food.

Standard dosing of lorazepam ranges from: 2 to 6 mg daily in divided doses.

Some common side effects with lorazepam include: drowsiness or dizziness.
Some less common side effects with lorazepam include: tiredness, decreased appetite, or reduced intellectual ability.

Do not take lorazepam if you have narrow-angle glaucoma.

While taking lorazepam remember it is important to tell your doctor, pharmacist, or dentist if:
• You have signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, or hives,
• You have trouble breathing, very bad dizziness, or are passing out
• You have hallucinations or changes in how you act
• You have signs of low mood, thoughts
