- What is Modafinil ( Provigil 100mg )?

- Modafinil is a CNS stimulant. It improve wakefulness in patients with excess daytime sleepiness (narcolepsy, sleep apnea, shift work sleep disorder).

- Narcolepsy is a chronic disease of the brain and spinal cord characterized most commonly by a recurrent, uncontrollable desire to sleep.

- Shift work sleep disorder is a condition in which the normal rhythm of sleep is disturbed, often as a result of working at night.

- Sleep apnea is a condition where sleep is constantly interrupted at night because of pauses in breathing or shallow breathing usually due to obstruction of the upper airway.

- The mechanism of action remains unclear, but may involve the adrenergic and dopaminergic systems. Modafinil is not a direct- or indirect-acting dopamine receptor agonist. However, in vitro, modafinil binds to the dopamine transporter and inhibits dopamine reuptake.

- This activity has been associated in vivo with increased extracellular dopamine levels in some brain regions of animals. Learn more about the mechanism of action in the article in the description.

- It is available as 100 mg and 200 mg tablets.
