Morphine Side Effects and Mechanism of Action | Opioid Analgesics
In this video, you'll learn the side effects of morphine and morphine's mechanism of action. This is a super simple way to learn pharmacology faster and easier in nursing school.

The mechanism of action of morphine is that it binds to opioid receptors in the central nervous system, causing the central nervous system to become depressed. That CNS depression leads to less sensation and neurotransmitters, transmitting pain to the body and a decreased perception of pain. Morphine also releases histamine throughout the body.
Morphine's therapeutic effect is pain relief and it also causes blood vessels to dilate (also known as vasodilation) because of the CNS depression and general relaxation that occurs from it.
