Mupirocin ointment is used for bacterial skin infections such as impetigo.

It is an antibacterial agent and it acts by unique mechanism. It inhibits isoleucyl tRNA synthetase enzyme resulting in inhibition of isoleucine incorporation into the bacterial peptide chain.
