Your Medication Polytrim

Polytrim is also known by the generic name: Trimethoprim and Polymyxin B
Polytrim comes in an eye drop.
Polytrim is most commonly used for eye infections. This medication is instilled into the affected eye or eyes. It is best to avoid wearing contacts while using this medication, and be sure to not touch the tip of the container to the eye, eyelid, or other skin surfaces.
For the eye drop administration:
•Tilt your head back and drop the solution into the eye
•After use, keep your eyes closed. Put pressure on the inside corner of the eye. Do this for one minute. This keeps the drug in your eye.

Some side effects with Polytrim include eye burning, itching, tearing, stinging, and a rash.

When taking Polytrim, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever
• Changes in eyesight, eye pain, or very bad eye irritation
• Eyelid swelling

If you miss a dose of Polytrim:
• Use a missed dose as soon as you think about it
• If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your usual time
• Do not use 2 doses or extra doses

The best way to store Polytrim:
• Store at room temperature (do not freeze)
• Protect from light
• Keep all drugs in a safe place, out of reach of children and pets
• Check with your pharmacist about how to throw out unused drugs
