Your medication Simvastatin

Simvastatin is also known as the brand names: Zocor

Simvastatin comes in 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80mg tablets.

Simvastatin is most commonly used for high cholesterol, but is also used for preventing future heart attacks and other heart diseases. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, simvastatin is usually taken by mouth once daily at bedtime and is safe to take either with meals or on an empty stomach. While taking simvastatin, avoid grapefruit products.

Standard dosing of simvastatin ranges from 5 mg to 80 mg daily

Some common side effects with simvastatin include heartburn, gas, bloating, stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, constipation, and diarrhea.
Some less common side effects with simvastatin include headache, joint pain, muscle pain, skin rash, sleep problems, or any cold symptoms like stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat.

Do not take if you are pregnant or are intending to become pregnant.

While taking simvastatin, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, swelling, or tightness of the chest
• An unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness
• Weakness and shrinking of the muscles around shoulders and hips
• Muscle stiffness, cramps, slowed reflexes
• Any changes in digestion, abdominal pain or swelling
