- Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, antihypertensive. It antagonizes the effect of angiotensin II (which is responsible for vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion), by blocking the angiotensin II receptors in vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. Leading to decreased blood pressure.
- It is available as 40 mg, 80 mg and 160 mg tablets. And it is also combined with the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide.
- Valsartan is used in the treatment of hypertension, and for heart failure.
