Doxycycline is an antibiotic that targets and kills the bacteria responsible for chlamydia. Here we have Dr Daniel Atkinson, the Clinical Lead at Treated, to tell us what it is and how it works.

Doxycycline is what we call a tetracycline antibiotic. It disrupts the production of essential proteins in the bacteria that causes chlamydia, stopping its spread and killing it off. You’ll take doxycycline once a day for a full week for chlamydia, and by the end of your treatment your condition should be resolved. You shouldn’t have any kind of sex (even with a condom) until both you and your partner have completed a course of treatment – but after taking doxycycline for a week you won’t have to wait any longer.

The Treated team can help you get the chlamydia treatment that’s best for your life. Subscribe, pause or stop whenever it suits you. Choose better.
