TRANSCRIPT:

What is naloxone? It is an effective medication used to treat an opioid overdose. It is sold under the name Narcan. It is designed to reverse and block the effects of opioids. It quickly restores normal respiration to the individual who is overdosing.

It can be administered by injection or nasal spray. It should be administered by a healthcare professional, emergency medical provider, or trained personnel. People who are given naloxone should still seek medical attention. Most common side effects of naloxone include swelling of hands or face, nausea, vomiting, fever, and irritability.

If you or anyone you know needs addiction treatment, call Mountainside at 860-824-1397.
