Ezetimibe Side Effects
In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key facts you need to know about Simvastatin - a cholesterol lowering drug called a 'statin'. This medication is also known by its brand names: Zocor, Simvador.
What is Simvastatin and what is it used for?
Simvastatin is used to lower cholesterol if you've been diagnosed with high blood cholesterol. It's also taken to prevent heart disease, including heart attacks and strokes. It belongs to a group of medicines called statins. Your doctor may prescribe simvastatin if you have a family history of heart disease, or a long-term health condition such as rheumatoid arthritis, or type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
Simvastatin is also available as tablets combined with other medicines that lower cholesterol:
- Cholib – combined with fenofibrate
- Inegy – combined with ezetimibe
What is the dose of simvastatin?
The usual dose of simvastatin for adults is between 10mg and 40mg once a day. People with very high cholesterol levels may be prescribed a higher dose of 80mg a day. For the exact dose always follow your own health providers guidance.
Can I take Simvastatin if I am pregnant?
Do not take simvastatin if you're pregnant. Talk to your doctor of pharmacist if you're breastfeeding as they may recommend that you take a different medicine.
What are the side effects of Simvastatin?
Always read the information leaflet inside the box first for any possible side effects. Serious side effects of simvastatin are rare, but can include (and are not limited to):
1. Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramps, particularly with higher doses of simvastatin, may indicate muscle breakdown and kidney damage.
2. Yellowing of the eyes or skin, pale stool, and dark urine can signal liver problems.
3. A skin rash with pink-red blotches on the palms or soles could be a sign of erythema multiforme.
4. Severe stomach pain may indicate acute pancreatitis.
5. A persistent cough, shortness of breath, and weight loss can be symptoms of lung disease.
6. Worsening weakness in arms or legs after activity, double vision, drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing, or shortness of breath might be signs of myasthenia gravis.

Cholesterol is made and used by your body & brain for many functions. Cholesterol-lowering drugs mess with these processes and lead to many problems. Cholesterol medicines double your risk of developing dementia, according to a new study.
In this video, I'll explain the study and give you the list of lipophilic medicines which double your risk of developing dementia. Please share this information with anyone you know who is taking cholesterol medications because it could save them from early dementia.
The Study: https://jnm.snmjournals.org/co....ntent/62/supplement_
The American Heart Association's stance on dietary cholesterol:
"Previously, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to no more than 300 milligrams per day. The 2015 DGAC [Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee] will not bring forward this recommendation because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol, consistent with the conclusions of the AHA/ACC report. Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption"

Hydrophilic or Lipophilic Statins?
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/p....mc/articles/PMC81726 (Climent et al.)
Lipophilic statins - atorvastatin(Lipitor), fluvastatin (Lescol), lovastatin (Mevacor), pitavastatin
(Livalo), and simvastatin (Zocor).
Hydrophilic statins - pravastatin (Pravachol), and rosuvastatin (Crestor)
PCSK9 Inhibitors Repatha (evolocumab) and Praluent (alirocumab) were not included in this study so we don't know yet if they will also double your risk of dementia, or worse.

- What is Ezetimibe 10mg ( Zetia )?
- Ezetimibe is an antihyperlipidemic agent. It selectively inhibits absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol in the small intestine, leading to a decrease in the delivery of intestinal cholesterol to the liver.
This causes a reduction of hepatic cholesterol stores and an increase in clearance of cholesterol from the blood.
- So Ezetimibe is used to lower cholesterol in people who have high blood cholesterol.
