An alpha blocker to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) in men, which include difficulty urinating, painful urination, and urinary frequency and urgency.
It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the bladder neck and prostate, and the smooth muscles around arteries and veins to allow urine to flow more easily.

Some alpha blockers worsen erectile dysfunction (ED), but alfuzosin usually does not interact with drugs such as sildenafil (Viagra).

• ureteral stones, to facilitate kidney stone expulsion

• nausea, vomiting
• constipation, diarrhea
