Atorvastatin is also known as the brand name: Lipitor

Atorvastatin comes in 10, 20, 40, and 80 mg tablets

Atorvastatin is most commonly used for lowering cholesterol and preventing heart disease. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, atorvastatin is usually taken by mouth once daily with or without food and may be taken at any time of the day.

Standard dosing of atorvastatin ranges from 10 mg to 80 mg daily

Some common side effects with atorvastatin include diarrhea, joint pain, and cold.
Some less common side effects with atorvastatin include stroke, diabetes, insomnia, nausea, urinary tract infection, and pain in the muscles.

Do not take atorvastatin if: you are or may become pregnant

While taking atorvastatin, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you:
• Have diabetes
• Have any abnormalities in the liver
• Experience muscle pain
• Are breast feeding
