Nursing Considerations

• Contraindicated with cephalosporin and serious penicillin allergies. • May need lead to seizures, pseudomembranous colitis, diarrhea, phlebitis at IV site, anaphylaxis • Assess infection and allergies • Obtain cultures prior to therapy • Monitor bowel function • May lead to superinfection • May cause elevated liver enzymes
