Your Medication Diazepam

Diazepam is also known as the brand names: Diastat AcuDial; Diastat Pediatric; Diazepam Intensol; Valium

Diazepam comes in 2, 5, and 10 mg tablets. Diazepam also comes in a rectal gel in 2.5, 10, and 20 mg.

Diazepam is most commonly used for short term ( 4 months) relief of anxiety symptoms, anxiety associated with depressive symptoms, or anxiety/stress associated with insomnia. Diazepam may also be used for nausea/vomiting from chemotherapy, partial seizures, or for agitation. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, diazepam is usually taken by mouth and can be taken on an empty stomach or with food.

Standard dosing of diazepam ranges from: 2 to 6 mg daily in divided doses.

Some side effects with diazepam include drowsiness, confusion, lightheadedness, blurred vision, and headache.

Do not take diazepam if you have acute narrow-angle glaucoma or untreated open-angle glaucoma.

While taking diazepam remember it is important to tell your doctor, pharmacist, or dentist if you:
• Have signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, or hives
• Experience drooling
• Experience extreme tiredness
• Are taking opioids such as codeine, oxycodone, or morphine.
• Experience hallucinations
• Experience any changes in how you act
