Japanese knotweed ( polygonum cuspidatum & japonica) is common roadside and waste area plant with multiple uses.
Besides providing an endles supply of material for my flute making habit, the young shoots are edible raw or cooked.
Medicinally, the root co gains resveratrol, a potent anti aging / anti inflammatory.
This and other tertiary compounds in the roots are effective in treating a variety of conditions, according traditional herbalists.
I personally use the tinctured root daily as both a tonic and preventative.
Borrelia seems to be disaffectionate towards polygonum, as the hundreds of ticks I have been bitten by have not given me Lyme or other co-infections, often associated with their bite.
An important herb for those who spend time outdoors and are looking for fortification against the deer ticks borrelia carrying habits.
