During an anthrax emergency, antibiotics like doxycycline can keep people from getting sick with anthrax if they start taking them as soon as possible. The video is for parents of young children and for anyone who cannot swallow pills. These instructions should ONLY be used during an anthrax emergency and ONLY with the doxycycline tablets that health officials provided. The video shows how to soak the doxycycline tablet in some water to make it easier to crush; how to measure the right amount of doxycycline according to how much the child weighs; and how to mix the doxycycline with food or a drink to make it easier to swallow. If a child has been given doxycycline tablets to take during this emergency, parents should have also received written doxycycline tablet crushing instructions that show them this process.
