Yesterday an article came out in JAMA about elinzanetant, a new drug to help with hot flash symptoms.

-The drug has been submitted but it's not FDA approved yet
-The drug works on receptors in the brain that control temperature
-It's similar to a drug that is FDA-approved now called Veozah (fezolinetant)
-It works on two receptors in the brain, NK-1 and NK3
-Side effects were headache and fatigue but there weren't any severe health side effects in the trial

I think the medication is very promising for hot flash symptoms, particularly for people who can't take the medications we have used in the past for hot flashes (hormonal medications, antidepressant medications like SSRIs, and gabapentinoids). Hoping this will be something that helps patients with sleep and overall quality of life. As usual with new drugs once it's FDA approved the challenge will be insurance coverage and cost.
