Prevention is better than cure!

Useful as prophylaxis or pre-exposure during out breaks

For people with high risk of influenza complications e.g.
- decrease immunity
-group home residents with co-morbidities
-exposed persons to infected individuals
-pregnant
- obese
-on immune suppressing medications

Dose for prophylaxis is 75mg PO OD pre-exposure
Duration is usually X 5/7, but greater if:
-Institutional outbreaks when all residents will be given Tamiflu regardless of vaccination status weeks and at least 1 week after the cases
-Severely ill
-Immunocompromised
Post exposure should take 75mg PO BID X 5/7 or X 10/7 if hospitalized
OSELTAMIVIR
Greater than 40Kg = 75 PO BID
23-40kg = 60mg PO BID
15-23kg = 45mg PO BID
Less than 15KG = 30mg PO BID
Infants = 3mg/kg/PO once daily
