Oxycodone hydrochloride is an opioid drug used for the management of moderate to severe pain, usually for an extended time period or following major surgical procedures. It is the main ingredient in the extended release version of the drug known as Oxycontin. Oxycodone is not an "as needed for pain" drug. Oxycododone is available as a generic drug.

Common side effects of Oxycodone include:

constipation,
nausea,
stomach pain,
loss of appetite,
vomiting,
sleepiness,
tiredness,
drowsiness,
dizziness,
lightheadedness,
weakness,
itching,
headache,
dry mouth,
sleep disturances, including nightmares or vivid dreams,
sweating, and
a decrease in the ability to feel pain.

Tell your doctor if you experience serious side effects of Oxycodone including:

respiratory depression,
apnea, which means stopped breathing,
respiratory arrest,
circulatory depression,
or low blood pressure.

Oxycodone can lead to death via respiratory depression if used in combination with other central nervous system depressant drugs, or when too much of the medication is taken. Be VERY careful while using this medication.
