Pediatric grand rounds provide physicians a continuous update on emerging trends in caring for the pediatric patient, including new scientific discoveries that provide the underpinning of current pediatric practice. This activity also will inform physicians about other issues, including professionalism, socioeconomic issues and topics related to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education core competencies.

At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:

1) Review the disease characteristics and burden of severe asthma in the pediatric population
2) Discuss strategies for improving control in children with difficult-to-treat asthma
3) Explore the role of adjunctive medications such as low-dose theophylline, anticholinergics and macrolides
4) Appraise the current utility of monoclonal antibodies such as omalizumab and mepolizumab in treating pediatric patients
