Lean is a slang term for cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine, an antihistamine. It’s mixed with soft drinks and or candy to add to the flavor, and it’s used as a party drug. Purple drank, sizzurp, and Texas Tea are all slang terms for it. Although codeine isn’t one of the stronger opioids like fentanyl, codeine abuse can destroy your life almost as easily. Also, high doses of promethazine can cause serious organ damage.
Lean has killed people, too. Rapper Pimp C from Underground Kingz (UGK) died in part due to drinking lean.
