Understanding Olmesartan Tablets: Uses, Dosage, Mechanism, Side Effects, and Essential Advice
Understanding Olmesartan Tablets: Uses, Dosage, Mechanism, Side Effects, and Essential Advice Side Effects 3 Views • 5 months ago

Welcome to MediInsights, where we unlock the wonders of wellness! In today's video, we delve into Olmesartan tablets, a crucial medication for managing high blood pressure. We'll cover everything you need to know, from its uses and proper dosage to its mechanism of action, potential side effects, and important advice for safe usage.

What are Olmesartan Tablets?
Olmesartan tablets are primarily prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). By effectively lowering blood pressure, Olmesartan helps reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events like strokes and heart attacks, as well as protecting kidney function.

Dosage of Olmesartan Tablets:
Olmesartan is available in various dosages, typically ranging from 5 mg to 40 mg. For most adults, the initial dose is usually 20 mg once daily. Depending on how you respond to the treatment, your healthcare provider may adjust your dose up to a maximum of 40 mg per day. Remember, always follow your doctor's instructions and never self-adjust the dosage.

Mechanism of Action:
Olmesartan belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). It works by preventing angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels, from binding to its receptors. This inhibition allows blood vessels to relax and widen, resulting in lower blood pressure and improved blood flow.

Side Effects of Olmesartan Tablets:
While Olmesartan is generally well-tolerated, some common side effects may include dizziness, headache, and fatigue. Gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea can also occur. Serious but rare side effects include kidney problems, severe allergic reactions, or high potassium levels (hyperkalemia). If you experience any severe side effects, seek medical attention immediately.

Important Advice for Using Olmesartan Tablets:

Follow Prescription Instructions: Always take Olmesartan exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
Monitor Blood Pressure: Regularly check your blood pressure to ensure the medication is effective.
Do Not Discontinue Abruptly: Consult your doctor before stopping Olmesartan to avoid sudden increases in blood pressure.
Avoid Drug Interactions: Inform your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking.
Stay Hydrated: Maintain proper hydration but avoid excessive salt or potassium intake.
Pregnancy Alert: If you become pregnant, notify your doctor immediately as Olmesartan can harm the fetus.
Regular Check-ups: Regularly monitor kidney function and potassium levels as directed by your healthcare provider.

How to use olmesartan medoxomil?

This medication is neither a beta blocker nor an ACE inhibitor. It is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It is used in the treatment of hypertension. The right dose depends on many factors. Typically, it can be started at a low dose of 20 mg. Later it can be used at a dose of 40 mg.

Olmesartan can affect your kidneys and can induce acute renal failure. It can also increase oliguria and azotemia. Angioedema is another important effect produced by this medication. Hypotension produced by olmesartan can be increased by salt depletion and low body volume.

Understanding the Common Side Effects of Olmesartan (brand name: Benicar, which is registered trademark),

Welcome to our educational video by Dr. Lukasz Kiljanek, a Board Certified Nephrologist, Hypertension Specialist, and Internal Medicine physician.

Olmesartan a widely prescribed medication for high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure or kidney disease. While it is highly effective, it's important to be aware of potential side effects. In this video, we'll discuss common side effects.

Cough: Some people might experience a persistent dry cough while taking Olmesartan. If you develop a cough, let your healthcare provider know. There are other medications that provide almost the same benefits as Olmesartan but may not cause a cough.

Dizziness: Dizziness can happen, especially if your blood pressure lowers too much or if you are dehydrated.

High Potassium level: Olmesartan can cause your potassium levels to become high. Your healthcare provider will likely monitor your potassium levels, usually 3-4 weeks after starting Olmesartan or increasing the dose of Olmesartan to make sure potassium stays within a safe range.

Increased creatinine level: Creatinine level can go up, and this sometimes indicates that the medication is actually working. Blood work will be needed to monitor creatinine levels to ensure it remains within safe ranges, usually 3-4 weeks after starting Olmesartan or increasing the dose of Olmesartan.

Always notify your healthcare provider if you develop any side effects or have any concerns or questions about your medication. They can provide the best advice and support for your specific situation.

14:08 - Outro

1. What is Zyprexa? Zyprexa is an atypical antipsychotic

2. What is Zyprexa (Olanzapine) used for? Zyprexa is used in the treatment of schizophrenia and sometimes for the stabilization of bipolar. These diagnoses are sometimes however confused with hypoglycemia, drug use, and spiritual crisis.

3. What does Zyprexa Withdrawal look like? Since there is a dopamine surge coming off of Zyprexa, the withdrawal generally looks like a return of the original symptoms. Typical signs are mania, psychosis, inability to sleep, lack of desire to eat. This can be lessened by doing a very slow withdrawal and avoiding stimulants like caffeine.

To read more about Zyprexa Withdrawal and Olanzapine visit:
https://www.alternativetomeds.....com/antipsychotics/z

4. Am I schizophrenic if I take Zyprexa? No, but sometimes the drug itself can create symptoms that look like schizophrenia. There is a difference between schizoaffective and schizophrenic, which the later tends to have a more constant presentation of symptoms.

5. What are Zyprexa Alternatives? Vitamin C, Niacin, Lithium Orotate, restricting drug use, avoiding stimulants.

To read more about Zyprexa Alternatives and Olanzapine alternatives visit:
https://www.alternativetomeds.....com/blog/zyprexa-alt

6. Can Zyprexa cause tardive dyskinesia? Any antipsychotic can cause tardive dyskinesia or akathisia. Atypicals are less likely than typical antipsychotics. Certain genetic factors like the CYP2D6 or CYP3A4 polymorphisms are suspected.

Olanzapine is also known as the brand name: Zyprexa and Zydis

Olanzapine comes in tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and injectable dosage forms.

Olanzapine is most commonly used for: manifestations of schizophrenia, treatment of bipolar type I disorders, and mixed mania episodes associated with bipolar type I disorders. Olanzapine may also be used for nausea/vomiting from chemotherapy treatment, psychosis/agitation associated with dementia, PTSD, or for Tourette syndrome. Tablets are taken by mouth with or without food. Orally disintegrating tablets should be allowed to dissolve on the tongue without food or drink and should not be chewed or crushed. Zyprexa (olanzapine)
Zyprexa (olanzapine) Side Effects 4 Views • 5 months ago

Dr. Pagnani of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates discusses Zyprexa (olanzapine) which is a second generation neuroleptic or antipsychotic (SGA). Although it is referred to as an antipsychotic, this medication can be utilized in the treatment of mania (in bipolar disorder) and also can be used to treat depression (for example, augmenting an SSRI or SNRI). It has the potential for many side effects, and some of them are discussed in this video.

Dr. Pagnani is the founder and medical director of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates, an Instructor at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for the Department of Psychiatry, he supervises psychiatric residents at Jefferson Hospital, he serves on the Young Professional Board of Uplift, the Center for Grieving Children and he maintains a private practice of Psychiatry in Philadelphia where he sees patients for one-time psychiatric evaluations and second opinions. He is a licensed physician and surgeon in NJ, PA, NY, MD, DE, FL and CA and can provide consultations to individuals via HIPAA compliant Telehealth visits living in these locations.

Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a private practice of psychiatry consisting of about 25 psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychotherapists with physical locations in Philadelphia and Paoli, PA and serving all of PA, NJ, NY and FL virtually via HIPAA compliant tele-psychiatry. Individuals seeking not only evaluations but long-term psychiatric care, can contact Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates directly.

These videos aim to increase awareness and discussion of mental health topics and to encourage struggling individuals to schedule an appointment directly with a mental health provider. Mental health needs to be normalized, and simply speaking about mental health topics openly, is an important first step.

Dr. Pagnani and Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates are NOT advocating for or against the use of any mentioned psychiatric medications for any specific individual. Additionally, any side effects mentioned are not a complete list of potential side effects or contraindications to taking any mentioned medications, and all risks and benefits of a medication should be discussed with an individual’s provider at an appointment, before starting, stopping or making changes to a medication regimen.

Ofloxacin 0.3% Eye Drops | Uses, Directions, & Side Effects | Dr. Eilbra Younan
Ofloxacin 0.3% Eye Drops | Uses, Directions, & Side Effects | Dr. Eilbra Younan Side Effects 2 Views • 5 months ago

Ofloxacin is an antibiotic from the fluoroquinolone family, effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, making it a preferred choice for treating eye infections.

Directions:
Instill 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) 4 times a day.

Do not wear contact lenses while using Ofloxacin Eye Drops unless approved by your doctor.
Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.
If you experience severe eye pain, vision changes, or an allergic reaction, contact your doctor immediately.

Like all medications, Ofloxacin Eye Drops can cause side effects. Common ones include temporary stinging or burning, redness, itching, or dryness of the eye. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, consult your healthcare provider right away.

Important Note: eye drops are typically pH-balanced and isotonic with our natural tears, meaning they match the eye's natural acidity and salinity. This makes them safe for use in the eye and also suitable for the ear, which can tolerate these gentle solutions.
