Auvelity is a new and promising antidepressant that combines two of the most common antidepressants out there. Dextromethorphan is a medication used to treat relief from coughs and other respiratory symptoms, while bupropion is a medication used to treat anxiety and depression.

Guaifenesin, found in over-the-counter products like Mucinex and Robitussin, is an expectorant used to relieve chest congestion in conditions like colds and bronchitis. It works by increasing the volume and reducing the viscosity of secretions in the respiratory tract, aiding in mucus clearance. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, and rash. Dosages vary by age, with adults typically taking 200-400 mg every 4 hours, not exceeding 2.4 grams daily. Guaifenesin can interact with other cough medications, antihistamines, decongestants, and alcohol, which may increase the risk of side effects. Warnings include avoiding use if allergic, and consulting a healthcare provider if pregnant, breastfeeding, or having chronic respiratory conditions.

So what is DXM, or Dextromethorphan? DXM is commonly found in Robitussin, Dayquil and other over the counter cold and flu medicine. DXM can come in both gel tablet and syrup form. It is a cough suppressant ingredient made to help get over the cough. However, it also has hallucinogenic effects if you consume too much of it.

The effects of DXM last anywhere from one to two hours but feels a lot longer. Some of the effects or what you experience can include:
- Enhanced perception of colors
- Enhanced sound quality
- Hallucinogenic feelings similar to Psilocybin mushrooms

While DXM is not physically addictive, it can become mentally addictive much like other non physically addictive drugs and behaviors.

Dextromethorphan Addiction Symptoms:
- Frequently being high with limited motor skills
- Frequently purchasing or taking cold medicine
- Drinking large volumes of cold medicine all at once
- Coordination and balance issues that would be expected of someone drunk
- Consistent lethargy or slurred speech
- Rashes and skin problems

Amphetamines are a class of mental health drugs that include all drugs ending in -amphetamine, like methamphetamine and dextroamphetamine. The exception to this rule is methylphenidate, which is an amphetamine-like drug that works similarly, but has a lower abuse potential. Amphetamines are CNS stimulants clinically used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy. Amphetamines can cause insomnia, so be sure to give the last dose before 6:00 pm to avoid interfering with nighttime sleep. Amphetamines can also cause hypertension and tachycardia, so the patient’s vital signs should be monitored closely. Other side effects of amphetamines include appetite suppression, leading to weight loss and growth suppression. As the nurse, be sure to closely monitor the patient’s height and weight, especially in children. And lastly, keep in mind that amphetamines can cause tolerance and dependence, leading to a high abuse potential.

How stimulants work in Adult ADHD: Most people know that the stimulant medications can be of great help in Adult ADHD, but most people think it just boosts concentration. They can be wonderfully helpful and I've witnessed many people who have found them to be transformative. But there's no free lunch and it can be helpful to understand what some of the downsides are and how you can mitigate them.

The stimulants (dexamphetaine/Adderall, ritalin/concerta/methylphenidate) have many effects on the brain/body. Many of these aren't well know to people, or even to their doctors, so we'll unpack the 10 secrets of stimulant medications:
Secret 1: Stimulants can inhibit natural distractibility
Secret 2: Stimulants can reduce spontaneity, creativity and playfulness
Secret 3: Stimulants can worsen sleep, anxiety, panic and anger
Secret 4: Stimulants can sometimes reduce anger and anxiety
Secret 5: Stimulants stimulate positive emotion with can sometime lead to addiction
Secret 6: Stimulants can increase physical performance, blood pressure and heart rate
Secret 7: Rebound effects are the opposite of the stimulant effects
Secret 8: Sometimes the "crash" can help with sleep
Secret 9: Tolerance can happen over time, that lead to dose creep
Secret 10: Tolerance/dose creep can be mitigated by regular (weekly) breaks from them

Dexlansoprazole Delayed Release 30 / 60 mg Capsules
DEXORELIEF (Dexlansoprazole) belongs to the class of drugs known as PPIs or Proton pump inhibitors. It is generally used in the treatment of Gastrointestinal problems.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Stomach ulcers
Heartburn
Peptic Ulcer

MECHANISM OF ACTION:
DEXORELIEF (Dexlansoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Proton pumps are enzymes in the lining of the stomach, these enzymes play a key role in the secretion of acid in order to digest food. DEXORELIEF (Dexlansoprazole) prevents proton pumps from working properly. This reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes, Thereby reducing GIT related issues.

One 30 or 60 mg DR Capsule once in a day (Works best when taken empty stomach).

Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (Silent Reflux) disease refers to abnormal reflux of gastric contents through the esophagus into the throat, which irritates and damages the pharyngeal mucosa, and causes corresponding symptoms.

Types of Proton Pump Inhibitors

Generally speaking, one PPI doesn't differ all that much from others. They all have similar mechanisms of action and similar rates of effectiveness. Currently approved PPIs include:

Prilosec (omeprazole)
Prevacid (lansoprazole)
Protonix (pantoprazole)
Aciphex (rabeprazole)
Nexium (esomeprazole)
Dexilant (dexlansoprazole)

When taken over the short term, most of the side effects associated with PPI use are mild and transient. The most common include constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, headache, upset stomach, nausea, and vomiting.

Increasing evidence suggests that long-term use may result in more serious problems. Among them:

It has been suggested that PPI use can interfere with the absorption of calcium, leading to bone fractures in certain cases. In response, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued warnings in 2011 advising that over-the-counter PPIs should be used for no longer than two weeks at a time for up to three treatments per year.

Long-term PPI use has also been associated with a slight increase in the risk of community-acquired pneumonia and Clostridium difficile infection.

A recent study shows a 20% to 50% higher risk of chronic kidney disease in PPI users.
