By inhibiting neprilysin, sacubitril helps increase the levels of these beneficial hormones, leading to improved cardiovascular function.

A commonly known heart medication called Valsartan is being recalled.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is recalling a common drug because of a potential link to cancer. Twenty-two other countries have already recalled this drug that’s often used to control blood pressure and treat heart conditions.

The FDA says that patients who are taking the recalled valsartan-containing medicines should continue taking their medicine until they have a replacement product.

Epanutin contains the active ingredient phenytoin, which is a type of medicine called an anticonvulsant. Phenytoin is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine. Phenytoin is used to treat epilepsy and works by stabilising electrical activity in the brain.

Trazodone is an antidepressant produces sedation therefore it reduces insomnia and awakenings at night time. However, it is approved to treat depression. Generic name: emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.
Drug class: Antiviral combinations.

What is Truvada?

Truvada contains a combination of emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate are antiviral medicines that prevent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from multiplying in your body.

Emtricitabine and tenofovir is to treat HIV, the virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This medicine is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, but it can be used to treat HIV in adults and children who are at least 12 years old and weigh at least 17 kilograms (37 pounds).

Truvada is also used in children who weigh between 55 and 77 pounds (25 to 35 kilograms) and who take certain other HIV medications.

Truvada PrEP is used together with safer-sex practices to reduce the risk of becoming infected with HIV. You must be HIV-negative and an adult to use Truvada PrEP for this purpose.


Warnings.


Do not take Truvada if you also take other medicines that contain emtricitabine, tenofovir, lamivudine, or adefovir.

Truvada PrEP is used to reduce the risk of becoming infected with HIV in adults who are HIV-negative. This medicine alone will not protect you from infection with HIV. You must also use safer sex practices and get tested for HIV at least every 3 months.

You may develop lactic acidosis, a dangerous build-up of lactic acid in your blood. Call your doctor or get emergency medical help if you have unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, dizziness, feeling cold, or feeling very weak or tired.

If you've ever had hepatitis B, it may become active or get worse after you stop using Truvada. You may need frequent liver function tests for several months.


Before taking this medicine.

You should not take Truvada if you are allergic to emtricitabine or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Do not take if you also use other medicines that contain emtricitabine, tenofovir, lamivudine, or adefovir.

If you take Truvada PrEP to reduce your risk of HIV infection: You must have a negative HIV test immediately before you start taking the medicine.

Do not take Truvada PrEP to reduce infection risk if you are HIV-positive, if have been exposed to HIV within the past month, or if you had any symptoms (such as fever, sore throat, night sweats, swollen glands, diarrhea, body aches).

To make sure Truvada is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

liver disease (you may be tested for hepatitis B before you can use this medicine);

osteopenia (low bone mineral density); or

kidney disease.

You may develop lactic acidosis, a dangerous build-up of lactic acid in your blood. This may be more likely if you have other medical conditions, if you've taken HIV medication for a long time, or if you are a woman. Ask your doctor about your risk.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, and use your medications properly to control your infection. HIV can be passed to your baby if the virus is not controlled during pregnancy. Your name may be listed on a registry to track any effects of antiviral medicine on the baby.



How should I take Truvada?


Take Truvada exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets.

You may take Truvada with or without food.

Use all HIV medications as directed and read all medication guides you receive. Do not change your dose or dosing schedule without your doctor's advice. Every person with HIV should remain under the care of a doctor.

You will need frequent medical tests to check your kidney and liver function, or your bone mineral density.

Truvada PrEP alone will not protect you from infection with HIV. You must also use safer sex practices and get tested for HIV at least every 3 months.

Store in the original container at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

If you've ever had hepatitis B, this virus may become active or get worse in the months after you stop using Truvada. You may need frequent liver function tests while using this medicine and for several months after your last dose.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Truvada: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Mild symptoms of lactic acidosis may worsen over time, and this condition can be fatal. Get emergency medical help if you have: unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, vomiting, irregular heart rate, dizziness, feeling cold, or feeling very weak or tired.

Degarelix is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist used primarily in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Here's an overview of its pharmacology:

Mechanism of Action:
GnRH Receptor Antagonist: Degarelix binds to GnRH receptors in the anterior pituitary gland, blocking the interaction with GnRH. This results in a rapid and sustained reduction in the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).

Testosterone Suppression: The reduction in LH and FSH levels leads to a decrease in testosterone production, which is crucial for the management of prostate cancer.

Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Degarelix is administered subcutaneously and is rapidly absorbed.

Distribution: It has a volume of distribution greater than 1000 L.

Metabolism: Degarelix is metabolized via peptide hydrolysis in the liver.

Excretion: The drug and its metabolites are excreted primarily via the feces (70-80%) and to a lesser extent via the urine (20-30%).

Elimination Half-Life: The elimination half-life is approximately 53 days for the loading dose and 31 days for the maintenance dose.

Clinical Use:
Advanced Prostate Cancer: Degarelix is indicated for the treatment of advanced hormone-dependent prostate cancer in adult males. It is used to achieve and maintain suppression of testosterone levels3.

Side Effects:
Common Side Effects: Injection-site reactions (pain, erythema, swelling), hot flushes, and weight gain.

Serious Side Effects: Potential for allergic reactions, liver enzyme abnormalities, and cardiovascular events.

#Degarelix

Philip J. Buffington, MD, chief medical officer at The Urology Group, discusses administering Firmagon (degarelix) and determining which patients to treat with the hormonal therapy.

Steven Joniau, MD, PhD, University Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, The Netherlands, discusses data from the Phase II ARNEO trial (NCT03080116) of neoadjuvant degarelix with or without apalutamide in patients with high-risk prostate cancer. 89 patients were randomized to either receive degarelix with apalutamide or a placebo and the difference in minimal residual disease was the primary endpoint. The cohort receiving degarelix and apalutamide achieved superior outcomes and loss of PTEN was additionally found to predict negative outcomes. This interview took place at the European Association of Urology (EAU) Meeting 2022.
