CETIRIZINE, cetirizine hydrochloride, cetirizine hcl
CETIRIZINE, cetirizine hydrochloride, cetirizine hcl Side Effects 1 Views • 2 months ago

CETIRIZINE, ceterizine hydrochloride, ceterizine hcl.
Brand names of Cetriziine generic: Aller-Tec, Alleroff, Zyrtec.
Cetirizine tablet: cetirizine 5 mg, cetirizine 10 mg, cetirizine 20 mg.

Cetirizine review: what is cetirizine?, what is cetirizine used for?, cetirizine side effects, cetirizine uses, cetirizine dosage.

Why is this medication prescribed?

Cetirizine is used to temporarily relieve the symptoms of hay fever (allergy to pollen, dust, or other substances in the air) and allergy to other substances (such as dust mites, animal dander, cockroaches, and molds).
These symptoms include sneezing; runny nose; itchy, red, watery eyes; and itchy nose or throat.
Cetirizine is also used to treat itching and redness caused by hives.
However, cetirizine does not prevent hives or other allergic skin reactions. Cetirizine is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

Cetirizine is also available in combination with pseudoephedrine (Sudafed, others).
This monograph only includes information about the use of cetirizine alone. If you are taking the cetirizine and pseudoephedrine combination product, read the information on the package label or ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

How should this medicine be used?

Cetirizine comes as a tablet, a chewable tablet, an extended release tablet, and a syrup (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day with or without food.
Take cetirizine at around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your package label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.
Take cetirizine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than directed on the package label or as recommended by your doctor.

Do not use cetirizine to treat hives that are bruised or blistered, that are an unusual color, or that do not itch. Call your doctor if you have these types of hives.

Stop taking cetirizine and call your doctor if your hives do not improve during the first 3 days of your treatment or if your hives last longer than 6 weeks. If you do not know the cause of your hives, call your doctor.

If you are taking cetirizine to treat hives, and you develop any of the following symptoms, get emergency medical help right away: difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing; swelling in and around the mouth or swelling of the tongue; wheezing; drooling; dizziness; or loss of consciousness.
These may be symptoms of a life-threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. If your doctor suspects that you may experience anaphylaxis with your hives, he may prescribe an epinephrine injector (EpiPen). Do not use cetirizine in place of the epinephrine injector.

What special precautions should I follow?

Before taking cetirizine:

tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to cetirizine, hydroxyzine (Vistaril), or any other medications.

tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take.
Be sure to mention any of the following: antidepressants, medications for anxiety, medications for mental illness, medications for seizures, other medications for cold and allergy, sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and theophylline (Theo-24, Theolair). Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.

tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease.

tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking cetirizine, call your doctor.

you should know that cetirizine may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this medication.

Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages while taking this medication.

What should I do if I forget a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Cetirizine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

drowsiness.
excessive tiredness.
dry mouth.
stomach pain.
diarrhea.
vomiting.

Some side effects can be serious. The following symptom is uncommon, but if you experience it, call your doctor immediately:

difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Cetirizine may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

▪ Common side effects may include: severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody, nausea, vomiting; diarrhea; rash, itching; vaginal itching or discharge; or diaper rash.

Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium Augmentin Understanding the Uses and Potential Side Effects
Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium Augmentin Understanding the Uses and Potential Side Effects Side Effects 2 Views • 2 months ago

Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium, commonly known as Augmentin, is a combination antibiotic medication that is widely used to treat a broad range of bacterial infections. The combination of amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, and clavulanate potassium, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, provide a stronger and broader spectrum of coverage than amoxicillin alone, making it a very effective treatment option for certain types of infections that may be resistant to other antibiotics.
One of the main indications of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium is for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis and pneumonia. It is also commonly used to treat urinary tract infections, skin infections, and some dental infections. Additionally, it is often prescribed as a prophylactic treatment for people who are at a high risk of developing certain types of bacterial infections.
Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium is usually administered orally, as a tablet or a liquid suspension. The typical adult dose ranges from 250mg to 500mg, taken two to three times per day, depending on the severity of the infection. The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection, but typically lasts for 7 to 10 days.
Like all medications, amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium also has some side effects. The most common side effects include gastrointestinal distress, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Allergic reactions, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, can also occur in rare cases. It's important to speak with your healthcare provider if you experience any unusual symptoms while taking the medication.
It's also important to note that amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium can interact with certain other medications, such as blood thinners, and some pain relievers, so it's crucial to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking prior to starting treatment with amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium.
In conclusion, amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium is a safe and effective antibiotic combination that can be used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, particularly those that may be resistant to other antibiotics. However, as with any medication, it is important to be aware of the potential side effects and to speak with your healthcare provider if you experience any unusual symptoms while taking the medication. It is also important to take the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider and to keep all appointments with them to monitor your progress.

Amoxicillin | Bacterial Targets, Mechanism of Action, Adverse Effects | Antibiotic Lesson
Amoxicillin | Bacterial Targets, Mechanism of Action, Adverse Effects | Antibiotic Lesson Side Effects 0 Views • 2 months ago

Lesson on the antibiotic amoxicillin, what bacteria amoxicillin targets, the mechanism of action of amoxicillin, contraindications of amoxicillin usage, and adverse effects of amoxicillin. Amoxicillin is an aminopenicillin antibiotic that has a broad spectrum of targets including gram positive cocci, enterococci, and gram negative bacteria including E. coli, shigella and salmonella. However, recent antibiotic resistance has rendered amoxicillin less effective. In this lesson, we also discuss how bacteria become resistant to amoxicillin and what can be used to increase the effectiveness of amoxicillin against bacteria that have become resistant to amoxicillin. We discuss infections that amoxicillin can be used for (urinary tract infections, middle ear infections).

NOTE: The Gram Negative “Aerobes” discussed in the video are actually “Facultative Anaerobes”, although they act as “aerobes” in the presence of oxygen.

Hey everyone! This is another antibiotic lesson! In this lesson, you will learn about the antibiotic amoxicillin, the gram positive and gram negative bacteria that amoxicillin targets, how amoxicillin works, and some contraindications of amoxicillin usage along with a long list of adverse reactions associated with amoxicillin usage. If you found this video helpful, please like and subscribe for more videos :)

Augmentin 625 Duo Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid. Amoxycillin is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Amoxycillin against bacteria.

Augmentin 625 Tablet is best taken with a meal to reduce the chance of a stomach upset. You should take it regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time every day will help you to remember to take it. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for but you should always complete a full course of this antibiotic as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it until you have finished, even when you feel better. If you stop taking it early some bacteria may survive and the infection may come back or worsen.

The most common side effects of this medicine include vomiting nausea and diarrhea. These are usually mild but let your doctor know if they bother you or will not go away.

How and When to use Augmentin? (Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid) - Doctor Explains Side Effects 1 Views • 2 months ago

This is an informational overview video on Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid. It is also known under the brandname; "Augmentin". It is available as a powder for oral suspension, a tablet and as an injection.

When to use it?
Augmentin is a wide-spectrum antibiotic. Which means it can be used to treat thousands different types of bacteria. Therefore Augmentin is mostly used to treat infections caused by unknown microorganisms, such as:
An upper respiratory tract infection (like a sinusitis)
An lower respiratory tract infection (pneumonia)
An urogenital tract infection (Chlamydia)
An gastrointestinal infection (H. pylori bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers);
Infections in your bones (e.g., osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infections);
And lastly severe skin and soft tissue infections.

How to use it?
Swallow it tablet whole, with a glass of water. Do not chew on it or crush it. Or resolve the powder in half a glass of water and drink it.
Always take it at fixed times: preferably in the morning and in the evening. This lowers your chances on forgetting a dose. Furthermore, do not interrupt or stop the treatment and finish it completely.

What is the correct dosage?
It is important to always follow the precise prescription your doctor gave you.
Dose for adults and children 40kg:
500/125 mg every 8 hours
875/125 mg every 12 hours

In serious infections
1000/125 mg every 8 hours

Did you forget to take a dose? And does it take less than 4 hours till your next dose? Than skip the dose you missed and take the forgotten dose at the end of your treatment.

What are the side-effects?
(10%): diarrhea.
(1-10%): nausea, vomiting, candidiasis.
(0.1-1%): Dizziness, headache, rash, itching, dyspepsia.

Safety:
You can combine Augmentin with any type of food and even with alcohol.
Don’t use amoxicillin if you are hypersensitivity to Penicillin or Cefalosporin.

Pregnancy and Lactation:
You can safely use Augmentin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
However, you should stop with breastfeeding, if you are using Augmentin and you child gets diarrhea, candidiasis and / or a skin rash.

How to use Amitriptyline? (Elavil, Endep, Vanatrip) - Doctor Explains
How to use Amitriptyline? (Elavil, Endep, Vanatrip) - Doctor Explains Side Effects 1 Views • 2 months ago

In this video we will cover everything you need to know about Amitriptyline, also known as Elavil. This video is part of a video series on mental health problems. So for more mental health related videos check out this playlist:
https://www.youtube.com/playli....st?list=PLaG3Bo3L0gX

Generic name: Amitriptyline.
Brand names: Elavil, Endep and Vanatrip.
Available as a tablet.

How to use it?
Tablet: Swallow the tablet completely with half a glass of water.
It does not matter at what time of day you take this medicine. However, it is advised to always take it at the same time every day. If you experience dazing effects when taking it, it might be helpful to take amitriptyline in the evenings. However if you on the other hand experience agitation, than it would be better to take it in the morning.

Duration of treatment:
Furthermore if Amitriptyline has no effect within 6-12 weeks, it is probably not effective for you. Your prescribing doctor will most likely prescribe you another antidepressant. However if you do experience improvements of your symptoms, your doctor will usually continue your treatment for 6 months up to several years.

When to use it?
Amitriptyline is part of a group of drugs called Tricyclic antidepressant (TCA). It has a strong anti-histaminergic and strong anticholinergic effect. In addition it inhibits the re-uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain, which is probably related to its antidepressant effect.
This is why Amitriptyline can be used to treat several mental health conditions:
- severe depression;
- Neuropathic pain;
- Chronic tension headache;
- Migraine;
- Polyneuropathy.

What is the correct dosage?
Unfortunately I can’t provide you with specific dosages, as these differ a lot depending on the specific indication of use, the side effects you experience and the severity of your complaints.

WellWaveNOW – Healthcare Disrupters (Please jonin)
https://www.facebook.com/group....s/healthcaredisrupte

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat various conditions, including depression, chronic pain (like neuropathic pain), and migraine prevention. While it can be effective, amitriptyline can cause a range of side effects, both short-term and long-term. These side effects can vary in intensity from mild to severe.

Common Side Effects:
Drowsiness and Fatigue: Amitriptyline is known for causing sedation, making users feel extremely tired or sleepy.

Dry Mouth: Many users experience persistent dry mouth while taking amitriptyline.

Dizziness: Feeling lightheaded, especially when standing up quickly (due to orthostatic hypotension), is a frequent side effect.

Weight Gain: Long-term use of amitriptyline is often associated with significant weight gain.

Constipation: This medication can slow down digestion, leading to constipation.

Blurred Vision: Visual disturbances, including blurred vision or trouble focusing, are possible.

Increased Appetite: Amitriptyline can lead to increased hunger, contributing to weight gain.

Urinary Retention: Difficulty urinating or inability to empty the bladder completely is a possible side effect.

Increased Sweating: Some individuals may notice excessive sweating, especially at night.

Confusion or Cognitive Impairment: Some people report memory problems, difficulty concentrating, or confusion, especially in older adults.

Serious Side Effects:
Cardiovascular Issues:

Irregular Heartbeat (Arrhythmia): Amitriptyline can affect the heart’s electrical signals, leading to arrhythmias, especially in individuals with pre-existing heart conditions.
Increased Heart Rate (Tachycardia): A faster-than-normal heart rate is another possible issue.
Suicidal Thoughts: As with other antidepressants, amitriptyline can increase the risk of suicidal ideation, particularly in young adults and teenagers during the early stages of treatment.

Seizures: Though rare, amitriptyline may lower the seizure threshold in some individuals, increasing the risk of seizures.

Mania: In people with bipolar disorder, amitriptyline can trigger manic episodes.

Severe Allergic Reactions:

Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing, which may indicate an allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
Orthostatic Hypotension: Severe drops in blood pressure upon standing, which can lead to fainting or falls, particularly in older adults.

Tardive Dyskinesia: A rare side effect involving involuntary movements, often of the face or limbs, after prolonged use.

Amitriptyline (Elavil) a Tricyclic Antidepressant (TCA) used in the Treatment of Major Depression
Amitriptyline (Elavil) a Tricyclic Antidepressant (TCA) used in the Treatment of Major Depression Side Effects 0 Views • 2 months ago

Dr. Pagnani of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates discusses Amitriptyline (Elavil) a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that has been used in psychiatry to treat depression since about 1960. Tricyclic antidepressants are not as commonly used as some other antidepressant medications (like SSRIs and SNRIs) as they tend to carry increased risks for side effects (including, but not limited to, cardiac arrhythmias, increased intra-ocular pressure, dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, sedation, orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia and others). Amitriptyline is also FDA approved for use in neuropathic pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia and migraine headache prophylaxis. If an individual develops suicidal thoughts while taking an antidepressant (or at any time, whether they take a medication or not) they need to seek immediate medical attention. TCAs, like amitriptyline or Elavil) can be extremely effective (with all of this being said) and for some individuals who do not respond to other treatment modalities, they can be an important next step for the treatment of their depression.

Dr. Pagnani is the founder and medical director of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates, an Instructor at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for the Department of Psychiatry, he supervises psychiatric residents at Jefferson Hospital, he serves on the Young Professional Board of Uplift, the Center for Grieving Children and he maintains a private practice of Psychiatry in Philadelphia where he sees patients for one-time psychiatric evaluations and second opinions. He is a licensed physician and surgeon in NJ, PA, NY, MD, DE, FL and CA and can provide consultations to individuals via HIPAA compliant Telehealth visits living in these locations.

Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a private practice of psychiatry consisting of about 25 psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychotherapists with physical locations in Philadelphia and Paoli, PA and serving all of PA, NJ, NY and FL virtually via HIPAA compliant tele-psychiatry. Individuals seeking not only evaluations but long-term psychiatric care, can contact Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates directly.

These videos aim to increase awareness and discussion of mental health topics and to encourage struggling individuals to schedule an appointment directly with a mental health provider. Mental health needs to be normalized, and simply speaking about mental health topics openly, is an important first step.

Dr. Pagnani and Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates are NOT advocating for or against the use of any mentioned psychiatric medications for any specific individual. Additionally, any side effects mentioned are not a complete list of potential side effects or contraindications to taking any mentioned medications, and all risks and benefits of a medication should be discussed with an individual’s provider at an appointment, before starting, stopping or making changes to a medication regimen.

Amitriptyline
Amitriptyline Side Effects 1 Views • 2 months ago

Amitriptyline was approved over half a century ago as an antidepressant and still remains popular today. Interestingly amitriptyline provides a similar degree of relief from depression as more recent additions to our armamentarium. Selecting among the various options involves considering other circumstances: medical issues, patient preference and side effect profile.

Over the years, the indications for amitriptyline expanded far beyond depression and often without either formal study or specific FDA authorization. Among the conditions routinely treated with amitriptyline are fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, diabetic neuropathy, pain lingering after shingles, insomnia and low back pain. Amitriptyline ranks among the least expensive options to prevent migraine headache and may even remedy chronic itchiness.

A major issue with amitriptyline involves tiredness or fatigue. For this reason most doctors recommend taking the medicine just before retiring for the evening. In fact many physicians prescribe low doses to treat insomnia rather than larger amounts necessary to combat depression.

Among the many undesirable side effects of amitriptyline are dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, weight gain, difficulty urinating and erectile dysfunction. Problems concentrating and the potential for cardiovascular issues pose further concerns. Common to all antidepressants, the FDA mandates a warning of increased suicidal thoughts and behaviors especially among those less than age 24.

Amitriptyline interacts with a significant list of other drugs. Special cautions concern triptans used to treat acute migraine attacks, Lyrica, gabapentin, tramadol and anti-psychotics now commonly employed in treating schizophrenia, mania of bipolar disorder and agitation associated with autism in children. MAO inhibitors must not be used within 2 weeks of amitriptyline. Overlap with the popular SSRIs and SNRIs such as Prozac, Celexa, Lexapro and Zoloft may risk a nasty condition known as the serotonin syndrome. Consuming alcohol while taking amitriptyline poses further risks.

After a course of therapy the dose must be gradually tapered rather than abruptly discontinued. Among the antidepressants, overdose of amitriptyline poses the greatest risk of death.

When used appropriately, amitriptyline continues to offer significant relief for a number of conditions of uncertain origin. Unfortunately the scientific underpinnings of how we select our therapies lags far behind our confidence level and ability to write prescriptions.
