When your diet is filled with processed foods and lacking essential nutrients, it can lead to constipation.
The most common type of constipation is primary constipation, in which constipation is the primary issue rather than being caused by a tumour or obstruction.
Microbes are vital in breaking down fibre and supporting healthy digestion. When our diet lacks these beneficial microbes, it can lead to problems such as bloating, cramping, and constipation.
The first step is to practice intermittent fasting by eating only two meals daily with no snacks. This gives the digestive system a chance to rest and catch up.
The second step is fixing your diet by simplifying meals and avoiding processed and refined foods. This also includes incorporating grass-fed meat, fermented foods, including sauerkraut, to provide beneficial microbes for a healthy gut.
In addition to these steps, consuming plants raised on healthy soils can provide essential nutrients and beneficial microbes for a healthy gut. Magnesium and vitamin B1 can help promote regular bowel movements. Castor oil and senna are also good natural remedies for constipation.

Senna is an herb that comes from several different flowering species of the Cassia plants. The leaves, flowers, and fruits of the senna plant have been used in tea as a laxative or stimulant for centuries.
The leaves of the Senna plant are also used in some teas to help relieve constipation or promote weight loss. The most common Cassia senna plants used are the C. acutifolia, and C. angustifolia plants, which are grown in the Middle East and India.

Senna is a herb that's derived from the senna plant. This natural herbal medicine consists of several different parts of the senna plant, including the fruit, flowers and leaves of the plant.
For centuries, senna leaves have been used to make teas and extracts that can help to stimulate the digestive system, producing a laxative effect. This plant originated in Egypt.
Typically, senna is used as a short-term laxative, but it is often abused for its supposed "weight-loss benefits". This video will look at the proven benefits of senna leaves, their uses, and the potential side effects of senna. At the end of video is a book on the Healing Power of Plant Medicine you might be interested in.
1. Treats Constipation
The most common use of senna leaves is as a treatment for constipation. In medically-reviewed research, senna has found to contain specific compounds that have a laxative effect in the human body. They react with the lining of the colon, irritating it and causing it to contract.
Senna is beneficial to digestion in another way, too - it can prevent the colon from reabsorbing electrolytes and water, which helps to naturally add more water to the intestines, softening stool.
2. Used For Colonoscopy Prep
If you're preparing for a colonoscopy, you may be advised by your doctor to use a laxative medication made from senna leaves to cleanse your body beforehand.
Colonoscopies can be carried out for a number of reasons, most commonly to screen for colon cancer. Senna medication has been used for nearly 50 years in colonoscopy prep, so it clearly does the job, but again, there's little scientific evidence to support its efficiency in this role.
3. May Treat Gastrointestinal Disorders
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is characterized by chronic stomach cramping and digestive issues.
Senna is used as a natural digestive aid for people who suffer from IBS-C, where constipation is a main symptom. Many people find that drinking senna tea on a daily basis keeps them regular because of senna's laxative property. Of course, senna isn't a good solution for people who have IBS-D, where diarrhea is a main symptom.
It's important to keep in mind that, being a stimulant laxative, senna is only intended for occasional use, and may cause issues when taken frequently. For that reason, it's not a good idea to take senna on a daily basis to treat digestive disorders such as IBS. It may have serious side effects if taken for longer periods, and you may become so used to taking the senna that you come to rely on it for bowel movement.
4. Anti-Parasitic
Senna is also effective in destroying parasites and expel worms from the intestinal tract. It works best when combined with other herbs used in the treatment of roundworm, such as ginger or fennel. These herbs increase regularity and reduce the chance of bowel cramps due to Senna’s strong action.
5. Skin Health
Senna leaves contain essential oils and tannins that help to alleviate skin inflammation. With a strong antibacterial activity, they can be made into a compress which can be applied to wounds and burns.
Acetone and ethanol - other compounds present in Senna - can fight the microorganisms that cause acne. Senna also helps to reduce sebum production and increase cell regeneration and collagen production.
The common side effects of senna appear to be relatively mild. Provided you're only taking senna for short-term treatment of constipation, you shouldn't experience any serious side effects.
Some of the common side effects of using senna tea are:
• Bowel/ abdominal discomfort & cramps
• Diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Nausea
These side effects are fairly expected, considering senna is used to treat and relieve constipation, which may cause diarrhea.
Because senna may be habit-forming, it's important that you don't rely on senna for bowel movement or drink senna tea on a daily basis. Long-term use of senna to help relieve constipation may increase the risk of liver damage and heart problems, as well as electrolyte disturbances.

I had a question from someone who was wondering about laxatives? Are laxatives dangerous, or are laxatives okay?
Well, I guess laxatives could be dangerous because a few possible dangers of laxatives are:
• They could be addictive
• They could deplete electrolytes (In this case, you would want to just add the electrolytes back)
The dangers of having chronic constipation are way worse than the minor dangers of using laxatives.
If you have constipation, as a coping mechanism, take an herbal natural laxative like cascara sagrada. This should give you constipation relief while you figure out what’s causing the constipation.
Natural constipation remedies:
• MCT oil
• Bile salts
• Vitamin B1
• Probiotic
• Fasting
• Adjust fiber

In this quick video, I’m going to share with you the 7 best natural laxatives. If you’re constipated, it could be that the problem that you have is mainly in the large intestine more than the small intestine. The large intestine has smooth muscle that allows it to contract and push food along the tract.
The best natural laxatives:
1. Senna
2. Cascara sagrada
3. Black psyllium (swells with water)
4. Castor oil
5. Magnesium
6. Vegetables (fermented)
7. Probiotics
People often say they don’t want to take a laxative because they may be addicting. But, the toxic effect of having chronic constipation can be very dangerous to the body vs. the minor side effect of taking a laxative.
You might experience a small drop in potassium from taking a laxative, but you can easily take more potassium. Ultimately, you want to correct what’s really causing the constipation, which usually is what you’re eating, or a lack of friendly bacteria.

VICE went to Colombia to check out a strange and powerful drug called Scopolamine, also known as "The Devil's Breath." It's a substance so intense that it renders a person incapable of exercising free will. The first few days in the country were a harrowing montage of freaked-out dealers and unimaginable horror stories about Scopolamine. After meeting only a few people with firsthand experience, the story took a far darker turn than we ever could have imagined.

If you suffer from seasickness, and when those silly wristbands, ginger chews, Dramamine, and Bodine have all failed, Scopolamine works. The active ingredient, Scopolamine, is contained in a small light skin-colored patch worn behind your ear. The transdermal scopolamine patch is only available by prescription, and is not classified as a controlled substance by the DEA.
Tim has used the patch for years with no problems whatsoever. The medicine slowly absorbs through the skin from a specialized rate-controlling membrane found in the patch. The low dose and slow absorption helps to prevent severe side effects in most people.
But a few years back, there were stories about some chemical known as "Devil's Breath" making its way around the world. Some said you could simply blow it into someone's face, or soak it into business cards and that would theoretically make you a "zombie," leaving you unable to control your actions. Yeah, those actions too. Ew. The story goes people would do this to tourists in France and Columbia and then empty their bank accounts, sexually assault them, or even harvest their organs for sale on the Black Market. This patch is NOT the same thing.

Scopolamine (Hyoscine) – Uses, Side Effects, Mechanism of Action, Dosage, Interactions, Warnings
Scopolamine, also known as hyoscine, is an anticholinergic drug primarily used to prevent nausea and vomiting from motion sickness and postoperative recovery. It is available in transdermal, oral, and injectable forms. Its mechanism involves blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems, thereby inhibiting signals that trigger vomiting. Commonly, a transdermal patch (1.5 mg) is applied behind the ear to provide relief for up to 72 hours, while oral or injectable doses range from 0.3 to 0.6 mg every 6–8 hours. Aside from motion sickness, it’s also used for postoperative nausea, irritable bowel syndrome, Parkinson’s-related drooling, and to reduce secretions in palliative care. Side effects include dry mouth, drowsiness, blurred vision, constipation, and more serious effects like confusion or hallucinations in the elderly. It interacts with other anticholinergics, CNS depressants, antidepressants, and MAOIs. Caution is advised in patients with glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, or during pregnancy, and users should avoid driving or operating machinery due to potential drowsiness.

How to use the Ventolin inhaler which contains salbutamol. This short acting inhaler is also sometimes known as a "blue" inhaler. Most commonly it is used as a reliever for asthma, although it can be prescribed for many other conditions. It is probably the most common and well known inhaler.
The inhalation technique involves first breathing out and then as you are breathing back in you press on the inhaler and continue to breathe in slowly an deeply trying to catch the aerosol that is released.

In this video I discuss about choosing an inhaler which is adapted to each patient. There are many inhalers for asthma and COPD available, however some people find some devices hard to use and therefore have poor inhaler technique. This results in suboptimal benefits despite using the newest inhalers available.
Having the right inhaler for each patient is more important than having the best inhaler.

An estimated 90% of patients use their metered dose inhaler incorrectly. Inadequate inhaler technique lowers drug deposition to the lungs, wastes medication and may lead to poor disease control, reduced quality of life, increased emergency hospital admissions and higher treatment costs.
Please spread the word to friends and family - Like, Share & Tag a Friend. So they can also master their inhaler technique when using a spacer device and manage their respiratory condition better.
HOW TO USE A SPACER WITH INHALER
1) Remove the inhaler and spacer cap. Carefully examine the products for damage, missing parts, or foreign objects. Remove any foreign objects prior to use. The products should be replaced immediately if there are any damaged or missing parts.
2) Firmly fit the two halves of the spacer together (If necessary).
3) Stand or sit upright when using your inhaler and spacer.
4) If you are starting a new inhaler or have not used the inhaler for more than one week you must prime your inhaler. Please read the information leaflet of your inhaler for instructions.
5) Hold the inhaler upright, insert into the spacer and shake 4 or 5 times.
6) Breathe out gently.
7) (Mouthpiece Spacer - Adults) Place the mouthpiece between your teeth without biting and form a good seal around it with your lips.

Please spread the word to friends and family - Like, Share & Tag a Friend. So they can also master their inhaler technique and manage their respiratory condition better.
COMMON INHALER TECHNIQUE MISTAKES:
• Not breathing out first. When you breathe out fully (or as much as you comfortably can) just before taking your inhaler, you create more space in your airways for your next breath in. This means that you can breathe in deeper and for longer when you inhale your asthma medicine - giving it the best chance of reaching the small airways deep inside your lungs, and being most effective.
• Not holding your breath after taking your inhaler. If you've been advised to hold your breath after taking in your inhaler, it's very important to do so. When you hold your breath after inhaling the medicine, you are keeping your airways still. This gives more time for the medicine to get into your lungs. If you can hold your breath for 10 seconds, this is ideal but if this isn't possible, you will still benefit by holding it for as long as you feel comfortable.
• Not priming the aerosol inhaler device Aerosol inhalers require priming (so you get the right amount of medicine when you use it) before using for the first time, or if they have not been used for a while - always refer to information leaflet.
• Not shaking your MDI before use and between puffs. If you don't shake the canister, the asthma medicine and propellant (the substance which helps turn the medicine into aerosol form) will not mix together properly and too much or too little of one will be released.
• Inhaling too early before pressing the canister. If you're already half way through breathing in by the time the medicine is released from the inhaler, you won't have enough time to finish breathing in all the medicine because your lungs will already be full. If this happens, some of the medicine will end up being sprayed in your mouth and hitting the back of your throat and not being carried down to your lungs where it's needed.
• Inhaling too late after pressing the canister (unless you're using a spacer). It takes less than half a second from the time the canister is pressed for all the medicine inside the inhaler to be released. If you breathe in after this time, some of the medicine will end up being sprayed in your mouth and not to your lungs where it's needed.
• Not leaving enough time between doses. You need to give your inhaler a good shake between doses and then wait at least 30 to 60 seconds before taking the next puff.
JUST ASK:
If you're ever unsure about your inhaler technique always double check with your pharmacist, nurse practitioner or GP.
