For patients who suffer bone diseases like osteoporosis and osteopenia, doctors typically describe a class of drugs known as bisphosphonates. These drugs are manufactured to the public with the brand names of Fosamax, Actonel, and Boniva. Recent studies have shown that these drugs are being linked to femur fractures in patients. Not only are they femur fractures, but something known as "atypical" femur fractures. And what this means is that these breaks aren't being caused by the normal accident or trauma to a leg.
Patients are fracturing their femurs doing the most normal of things like getting out of their car or stepping off a curb. One recent report stated that an astounding 82% of people who suffered this type of fracture had been prescribed one of these bisphosphonate drugs. More research and investigation is being done to confirm that these drugs are causing this type of harm and whether or not they should remain on the market. Watch this video now to learn more.
