Fluticasone is an intranasal corticosteroid that treats allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and runny or stuffy nose. It works by decreasing inflammation in the nose, making it easier to breathe.

Fluticasone is the generic name for this nasal spray and is also available under the brand name Flonase. Interestingly, both versions are available over-the-counter (OTC). However, if you prefer your insurance to cover it, you'll need a prescription for the generic name, Fluticasone.
*Keep in mind: there's no difference between the prescription and OTC products; it's just a matter of insurance coverage.

Before using: shake the bottle gently (or rub the bottle between your hands) and then remove the dust cover. It is necessary to prime the pump into the air the first time it is used, or when you have not used if for a week or more. To prime the pump, hold the bottle with the nasal applicator pointing away from you and press down and release the pump 6 times into the air. This gives you the assurance that the pump is working and is now ready for use.

Using the spray: first and foremost, blow your nose. Close one nostril, and tilt your head forward slightly. Next, insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Spray into the nostril, and then start slowly breathing in through your nose and breath out through your mouth.

*Directions: Use 2 sprays in each nostril daily (Adults); 1 spray in each nostril daily (Pediatrics Ages 4-17 years old).

When finished, wipe the nasal applicator with a clean tissue or napkin and replace with dust cover. Do not blow your nose right after using the nasal spray.

Like any medication, Fluticasone nasal spray may come with some side effects, including headache, dryness, stinging, burning, or irritation in the nose, and more severe ones like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness. If you experience any of these, it's crucial to consult your healthcare provider immediately.

Remember, this nasal spray can provide significant relief from allergy symptoms, but it's essential to use it as directed and to know when it's appropriate to discontinue use.
