Lidocaine brings about negative inotropic effects and antiarrhythmic actions in the heart which weaken the force of muscular contractions and can calm erratic and uncoordinated electro-myocardial activity. Its primary use is for cardiac arrest from ventricular fibrillation (VF) and pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT). For cardiac arrest from VF or pulseless VT, the initial dose is 1 to 1.5 mg/kg IV or IO.
