How to Use Naloxone or NARCAN Nasal Spray
Naloxone, commonly known by the brand-name NARCAN, can save the life of someone who is having an opioid overdose. The life-saving drug works in seconds when it is sprayed into the nasal passages of the person having an overdose, reversing the effect of the opioid drug causing that overdose.
There are six steps to using the opioid overdose-reversing medication naloxone, or NARCAN:
• Identify whether the person is having an opioid overdose and check to see if they respond to you
• If there is no response, administer NARCAN through the person's nasal passages (spray it in their nose)
• The person will not be harmed if they are not experiencing an opioid overdose
• Call 911 immediately
• Try to keep the person awake and breathing
• Lay the person on their side to prevent choking
• Stay with the person until emergency workers arrive

Before using Narcan, review the instructions provided with the medication. Review the following steps on how to use Narcan nasal spray.
* Step 1: Check for a suspected overdose by yelling “wake up” and gently shaking the person. If the person does not wake up, proceed to step 2.
* Step 2: Hold the Narcan nasal spray device with your thumb on the bottom of the plunger, and insert the nozzle into either nostril of the person suspected to have overdosed. Press the plunger firmly to give the first dose. Remember, each Narcan device contains only one dose.
* Step 3: Call 911 immediately after giving the first dose of Narcan.
* Step 4: Wait 2-3 minutes. If the person wakes up, stay with them until medical help arrives. If they do not wake up or become sleepy again, give Narcan every 2-3 minutes until they wake up.

Sandstone Care prescribes two FDA-approved drugs to treat opioid use disorder: buprenorphine (Suboxone and Subutex are common brands) and naltrexone (Vivitrol and Revia are common brands). These treatments have been demonstrated to be safe and effective in combination with counseling and psychosocial support. These medications either reduce the cravings or block the ability of the drug to create the “high” in the person’s brain.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Alcohol Use Disorder
According to the CDC, alcohol use disorder is defined by periods of binge and heavy drinking along with physical dependence on alcohol, cravings, drinking more to achieve the desired effect, and experiencing withdrawal symptoms when you do not consume alcohol.
Drastic changes in academic performance
Loss of interest in previously-enjoyed activities
Decreased personal hygiene
Sudden, inexplicable need for money
Alcohol use in spite of consequences
Smell of alcohol on breath or clothes
Flushed, reddened skin
Slurred or garbled speech
Coordination problems
Changes in sleep pattern
Difficulty concentrating
Mood swings
Use of alcohol to numb extreme emotions
Sandstone Care prescribes two FDA-approved drugs to treat alcohol use disorder: naltrexone (Vivitrol and Revia are common brands) and acamprosate (Campral is a common brand). These treatments have been demonstrated to be safe and effective in combination with counseling and psychosocial support.
Who Might Be a Good Fit for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?
History of overdose, intentional or unintentional
History of medical complications (infections like septic joints, endocarditis, hepatitis)
History of multiple relapses
Single history of severe/life threatening relapse
Significant cravings
Drug recall euphoria/obsessive thinking
History of high risk behaviors in relapse
Unstable living environment
Continued exposure to use after discharge
Inadequate aftercare plan

Naltrexone at low doses (LDN) and its relevance to cancer therapy
https://openaccess.sgul.ac.uk/id/eprint/114135/
Naltrexone was designed to inhibit opioid receptors without activating them and hence used to block the stimulatory effects of morphine and heroin. It was noted that in certain patients being treated with naltrexone for an opioid addiction many reported significant secondary benefit when being weaned off naltrexone. This group of patients had chronic inflammatory and autoimmune conditions and reported improvements whilst using the lower dosages of naltrexone. There have also been recent anecdotal reports of cancer resolution following the use of low doses of naltrexone (LDN). However, the mechanism of action is unclear.
Areas covered
We review three mechanisms through which LDN can influence cancer progression; namely, (a) antagonism of receptors to which LDN binds, which include toll-like receptors 7–9 that lead to IL-6 suppression b) modulation of immune function in patients; and c) direct inhibition of signaling pathways involved in cancer cell control, including the priming of pro-apoptotic pathways.
Expert opinion
Considering the increase in the number of anecdotal reports of activity, there will likely be a bigger drive toward using LDN in the oncological setting. These reports support clinical trials of LDN in cancer, especially when given in combination with certain chemotherapy.

Could the cure for drinking be just a pill? It's called Naltrexone, and it works by blocking endorphins and limiting euphoria after drinking.
Naltrexone was originally designed for people with severe alcohol dependence, but a new study found success among more casual drinkers who binge every now and then. The study, which was conducted by the American Journal of Psychiatry involved 120 men. Those who took the pill didn't drink as much and didn't have the same cravings as those who took placebos. The results lasted for six months after treatment.
Ironically, a common side effect to Naltrexone is nausea.

In this video, Dr. Mendelson speaks about naltrexone and how it impacts endorphins, serotonin, and mood when someone is using the medication for alcohol addiction, or alcohol use disorder (AUD). Dr. Mendelson explains how endorphins from alcohol are different than endorphins from other activities.

How to use Naltrexone for weight loss, how naltrexone helps curb appetite, and how to use it to burn fat.
Did you know that naltrexone, also referred to as low dose naltrexone, can help with weight loss?
It's actually an effective weight loss medication provided that it is used in the right way.
LDN or naltrexone or low dose naltrexone (all names for the same medicine) is typically used to treat alcohol dependence. But it was found that it can also be used to treat autoimmune conditions. Then later it was found that LDN also seems to have some weight loss properties.
LDN has very few side effects and it works through a different mechanism compared to other medications which makes it a great add-on for many people.
AS ALWAYS, make sure that you use LDN with OTHER weight loss therapies such as diet, exercise, and so on. Using it in this way is obviously the best.
We are going to discuss 6 ways that LDN (or low dose naltrexone) can help with weight loss:
#1. Naltrexone targets insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance is one of the primary drivers of weight gain and obesity in MANY people. Up to 50% of people in the US suffer from insulin resistance in some form.
LDN helps to drive down insulin levels which can help with weight loss.
#2. Naltrexone increases growth hormone.
Some studies show that naltrexone can also increase or normalize growth hormone levels. And because growth hormone helps maintain muscle mass and fat mass in balance, it will help manage weight.
#3. Naltrexone modulates your appetite.
Naltrexone also helps to MODULATE your appetite. Notice I said modulate and not suppress. It actually helps to reduce cravings for foods you shouldn't be eating and it helps you to eat the normal amount of calories you should be each day (instead of overeating).
#4. Naltrexone reduces inflammation.
Naltrexone ALSO helps to lower inflammation. Inflammation is a driver of fat cell dysfunction and weight gain by itself. So if you reduce inflammation you will help with weight loss indirectly.
This reduction in inflammation is also why LDN is often used to treat autoimmune conditions.
#5. Naltrexone improves your sleep.
Naltrexone has also been shown to regulate sleep cycles and to help improve sleeping patterns. Because a lack of sleep is associated with obesity, anything which improves your sleep may help with weight loss.
#6. Naltrexone improves and increases thyroid hormone.
